I'm having a little trouble figuring out why you are asking these questions with 20 years experience. You probably already know most of the answers. But, to answer the drug test question, you need to contract with a third party company that will pop random tests on you so you're in compliance. O.O.I.D.A. has such a service, and can also help with the fuel card and insurance.
As far as emergency service, one that comes to mind is Roadside Masters. Here's the link for them; http://www.roadsidemasters.com/ -
Join O.O.I.D.A.. They can take care of all of if. They can also help you obtain your authority ic you join them.. The legal dept. Answered questions for me and I wasn't a member. They can be very helpful in many ways. It's well worth it.

Rwd, i started driving semi's 1981 hauling grain from our farm. 3 trucks, 5 trailers and 2 bob trucks, even did a cotton gin haul for 4 years. Now i'm retiring and letting oldest son run things. I'm still going to haul grain ect... I've always had a tank here to fill up with never needed a fuel card. Farm bureau doesn't do commercial operations, so i have had to get all of this else where. I was just wondering what others had done. Most of what i read is mult-trucks or someone leased on some where. I'm just me my truck and i. Thanks for the info on roadside, we use goodsam's when we are in the motorhome but i'm looking for someone for the semi. Maybe i'll never brake down away from home.
