OOS for turn signals and 4 ways

4 ways by themselves won't put you out of service. If either rear turn signal is inoperative, you are out of service. No where that I am familiar with does it say you can't manually flash them yourself. A pain in the butt, but not illegal as I intrepret the law.

 

You can buy a copy of the OOS criteria from CVSA. Not sure if it is anywhere on the net.

 

Landline magazine publishes the OOS criteria every year and the back of the FMCSA handbook has a pretty complete list of items.

 

Why in the hell don't you get them fixed??!! Then you wouldn't have to worry about it!!!!!!!!

 

Buy one of the do it yourself annual inspection kits at the truckstop. I am pretty sure there is a list of the OOS guidelines in it.
It sounds like your turn signal flasher is no good. If the truck has been changed over to l.e.d. lights sometimes the old flasher will not make the leds blink due to their lower resistance.

 

What qualifies as OOS is determined by the LEO on site.
Dont let any written publication fool you into to believing any thing different,legal or otherwise.
