We're trying to take flatbed loads into Canada but need a trailer that will let us close the axles. Many provinces do not allow spread axles. I've made many calls trying to locate such a trailer but have been unsuccessful. Anyone know if such a trailer exists, what it's called, who makes it, etc? TIA
Open and closable spread axels?

We pull Western's 48' spread axle trailers that have the back axles slide so they close up. I'm sure there are many other makes and models but that is what we pull at System

Fontaine has front axles close back. 48 is what I pulled

A friend of mine has a 45' Wilson that is set up so that the front axle will slide back & make it a closed tandem.

Everyone makes them, and a sliding rear axle is very common in 53' flats. They are very seldom seen in 48 flats though. Here's a new 48 with a front slider

Reitnouer make them along with the others mentioned.

front axle slider moves weight onto the drives (approx 1700#) when you close up,
but you can run 37500# on a tandem in Canada.
when I pulled a 48' step front slider across the border I could load 12000/ 37000/ 37000 in
Canada then after sliding fifth wheel and axle I scaled 12800/ 33800/ 39400 in the
north-western US
a rear slider does the opposite and can't be used in the same way, but has the
advantage of changing you trailer wheelbase on a 53' trailerOneCosmicGuy and Cetane+ Thank this.
