A tip I just discovered. Opera web browser, which is not my favorite browser but I digress, has a feature called "Turbo Mode." What this does is, when it is turned on, when you request a web page, the images are intercepted on a server maintained by Opera, then compressed, then sent to your browser for you to look at. The images look slightly blurred. Also, flash advertisements are blocked, and only display if you click on them. Opera claims this reduces the data coming into your computer, when browsing regular sites like this one, any where from 60-80%. Right now, I'm in an Sprint 2g area, and the sites are loading noticeably faster than they are on both Firefox and Chrome, so this browser is much better than the others on a slow network when you have this turbo feature turned on.
Both Sprint and AT&T's connection managers, I don't know about Verizon's have a similar compression feature, called Bytemobile. This is similar to that, only better, because the compression is done on Opera's server, not your machine.
