Opinion From everyone out there

In my opinion working for or with friends never works out ! someone always gets hurt in the end !

 

i would rather have started out with someone I knew when I was training, feeling safe and comfortable would be a good idea, I personally would not let anything interfer with my friendship, as long as it's a good friend your relationship should grow stronger, that's just my opinion, good luck to you!

 

I second that. Don't work for family or friends if you value the relationship you have with them.

 

nothing will test a friendship like living in (at best) a 86 inch sleeper while touring the country... don't do it..

if the other company is paying percentage you need to know what kind of rates they are getting, garbage freight = garbage pay check

i put that to the test with a buddy, running team for 6 months. People will disappoint you, but it is more personal with a friend...... take that for what it's worth. But if it starts to go uncomfortable you can switch to company truck

 

Go with a big company that is doing otr. You don't want to be running up I-5 in the winter time. You can stretch your wings and miss some of those snow storms if you get something running south.

It would be hard for employee verification if you and your friend didn't work out. Some of the larger companies you mentioned have dedicated accounts and once you get comfortable with backing. You can probably jump on one of those and get home regularly. (swift/warner).

I would get hired on at swift and see if your friend can be you trainer and let them pay you instead of him.

 

hummmmm been a very long time since I was in this kind of position. I started working after leaving the farm for a family friend. Was good for me but that was years ago and oilfield work. Hauling pipe and drilling rigs. Longhaul would be quite a bit different. I would agree with many of the posts here go with your friend as a last resort.

 

i would do just the opposite, run I5 and get the mountain winter expierience and then any company will take you with not question about ability

 

ltl reefer is some crap work. Breaking down freight a lot of Appt. Stops that cause delays for the rest of the load. It is usually not ltl like Yellow or fedex where you show up bump it off and gone.

I would suggest you and all newbies take a job with a truckload carrier that offer different divisions and dedicated runs,such as Schneider.
The reason I say this is you can find a Division of trucking that suits your tastes and lifestyle without having to job hop. Then when you go looking for another job you will have some time under your belt with a short Resume and appear very reliable.
