Opinions On: Securing Steel Coils - Use of chains / straps / dunage

    Those blue j hooks are awesome. You can move them anywhere you need to have them. And they'll keep your trailer from getting gouged up. I wish I had them on the trailers I have now.

    need 2 chains for any small coil.,and so some reasons straps only for skidded coils .in canada you not allowed to X chains loaded suicide ,can only X loaded shotgun ..yes makes no sense government new securement laws

    For suicides I always threw an x strap over the front of it after chaining it down. I also keep all my chains tight together, I seen in another picture here of the chains all being spaced a pocket apart. I never liked doing that. It made a funky tarp job and I like to keep as much downward force as possible.

    For eye to the sky, I always used 5 straps on each. 4 for cross strapping 2 parallel, and 1 down the middle. I do that for all coils. I've never seen more than 3 eye to the sky on an open deck and I never got lazy with the middle one.

    So, what would you do if there was 8 coils eye to the sky on your deck ?? I’ve had 8 on my deck.

    Close the doors. 9,000lb eye to the sky paper rolls are thrown in dry vans at the millions of West Rock locations every day. Putting coils that small on an open deck that can be loaded/unloaded eye to the sky seems redundant.

    X on the front and back coil, the other 6 get a single strap over them.
