For those of us using the ecopur system, when are you doing the 10" ops filter change out and when are you doing engine filters?. Ops recommend 25k on their filter and 50k on the engine filters but I think that's a bit long...perhaps 20k for the ops filter and 40k for the engine?. Or maybe even 15k and 30k respectfully?. Oil sampling at both intervals of cause.

I am not using the OPS one, but am using a competitor. If the filter on the OPS is hot when running the engine, then oil is flowing thru it and not plugged up. With the bypass unit I have, they recommend 10K on the filter. I have comfortably doubled that with the very same results on the oil samples. If OPS says 25K on their filter, I would bet you could do that comfortably and possibly more. Are your samples showing that the filter needs changed sooner, or are you just still not comfortable with longer filter and oil changes? Let your oil samples help you decide what to do. You do not necessarily have to change the filter to take a quick oil sample. This is where a place like Speedco comes in. I have compared their sample testing with regular lab testing and it is pretty close. I will stop in when I feel like doing it, take a quick sample myself and walk it in and have it analyzed.

As for the engine filters, why would you feel they need changed more frequently than what OPS recommended? Since the bypass unit catches all the small stuff before it can get bigger, that takes some of the effort from the main oil filter(s). I know you could comfortably run the Donaldson Extended Life oil filters far longer than regular stock filters and they filter to a lower micron level than typical filters. And they are only a fraction more of the cost of standard oil filters. I use them along with my bypass unit.

Your right, I should let my oil samples guide my actions. I'm still get comfortable with the extended drain approach. Just about to hit the 50k mark on the same oil. Oil samples are coming back ok. I guess I'm using the concept that you can never over clean oil. The cleaner the better....I'm using Rotella T6 btw.

You have a good oil in there. Yeah, just let your samples guide you.

I'm getting an eco pure soon. To start out I plan on doing oil samples every 10,000. Change ecofilter every 20 (recommend 25) and engine every 40 (recommend 50) IMO, if something goes wrong in your engine, you may not want to drive another 20,000 miles before you figure it out. I kinda figure, additional oil samples is cheep insurance to make sure everything is ok. If the samples come back fine, i will try and extend to 25 and 50 on the filters.

The ecopure filter and oil sample come out to like 75 bucks when you buy 5. For 20,000 miles thats only $0.0037/mile on filters and samples. If you add an additional sample (there like $30 i think) its $0.0015/mile more. You can gain that in fuel savings by reducing your speed for 1 hour. Its NOTHING.

After switching from the OPS 1 (cannister filter) to the eco pure 10 in filter, I'm changing the OPS filter and sampling every 30K and my Cat filter every 60K and still getting good samples with Schaeffer's semi syn oil.

It will work out to what they recommend but wrapping your head around it at first and trusting is really hard to do.

Where do you find these filters in question for the ( Donaldson Extended Filter ) OPS unit, Do you have a part number or a website, just for that filter.

Just buy the filters from OPS and then you are sure your getting the right one.
