I'll be up there around saturday, looks like traffic flowing on 14. Has anyone been taking that route?
-
Tunnels look skinny.
The roof on a couple are short near the shoulder.
Plenty of pull off spots to enjoy the view. It's a nice ride, it might take an extra
15-30 minutes to run the gorge on the Washington side versus the Oregon side.
Good luck. -
From what I have heard, 14 west is temporarily closed to truck traffic west of Hood River. Check before you go.
JReding Thanks this. -
I would NEVER try and run 14 if I suspected a bulk of the normal I-84 truck traffic was going to be running it as a detour.
A handful of trucks running it is one thing. But a whole bunch of trucks going each direction? No thanks. -
14 is closed to truck traffic at this time. The problem with 14 is those tunnels. They are in fact very old, curved ceiling type tunnels. Trucks back when those tunnels were built had a clearance of probably 12'. To run those tunnels, you have to cross the center line to clear the tunnel walls. That's okay as long as you know there's no oncoming traffic, but you can never know that.
We've been running 26 to 35 and back to get out to Hood River from Portland.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
