    It's NOT normal to leave a student driver in the truck or for that matter in a motel for 2 days while the trainer is visiting family. The company is at fault for two things; They should never stick a company student driver with a contractor. He can do what he pleases, he's the one making the truck payment so the company has no control over the learning environment that the student is in. Big, big mistake! Second, the company has allowed a trainer to have a two day layover right after picking up a new student trainee. THIS IS JUST PLAIN STUPID! But then again, this is normal for Transam. You may want to request a new trainer if you feel that you are not getting your money's worth out of this one, and it sounds like he's the worst of the bunch.

    Y'all are supposed to be operating like a team for the most part. It is normal that you should be expected to do the lion's share of the work in order to learn, but at this point you should be doing every vehicle inspection with him being almost attached to you as you do it to make sure that you get it AND THAT YOU MAKE IT AN AUTOMATIC HABBIT!

    If I were you, I would stick it out with this one for a few more days. Talk to him about what your SPECIFIC expectations as a student driver for him as a trainer are. If he is unwilling to train you, as opposed to using you to make his truck payment, then get a new trainer. It Transam gets too freaky on this request, back off. Let EVERYTHING settle down. Do your best to learn what you can and get the heck out of his truck and into your own as quickly as possible. Remember, it will be your trainer's call as to when you go solo. As soon as you can, start shopping around for a real company to work for. Visit their home office and talk to their safety director. Let that person know what you've gone through with TA, find out what they would be looking for in you, what expectations they would have of you in your current position, etc. Then find out how long they would expect you to be at the TA job before they would hire you. It would also be in your best interest to request a trainer with the new company just to let them know that you are committed to the job and are interested in become a safe and professional driver.

    I know first hand the kind of politics and backstabbing that goes on in TA. Although it was a horrible choice, you had no real way of knowing. Now it's up to you to decide what you can go through to get past it and move on. I wish you all the luck in the world. Let me know if need any other ideas.

    Durrty, I'm a fellow driver of Transam. Don't get down and out about your trainer. I myself had a great trainer and experiencde with him. Just try to get as much info as you can from him. You'll most like learn most of everything, when you get your own truck and are solo. It's just to much info to learn in 3 weeks. Keep your head up and take care.:biggrin_255:

    thanks for all the comments.well i called the night shift dispatcher that saturday nite and told him of my situation and he seemed very upset that this guy would leave a student in the truck for those amount of days.i asked him would the company put me in a hotel while this guy was out lolligagging his response to me was hes not on home time he just came off of home time.i told him no he wasnt but just so happen the load we were to deliver was in columbia south carolina and thats where his wife lived and he was trying to get back with her as stated to me. i also told that i requested from the trainer that he shows me what i need to know about the reefer while hes gone,maybe show me some basic things just in case of an emergency..i always want a plan in the event something happens.the trainer stated "all it will be o.k." and left.i said o.k. i read the manual and see what needs to be done.the dispatcher was a nice gentleman and agreed to put me in a hotel right across the street.keep in mind i hadnt heard from the trainer since early saturday morning when he came and retrived some items out of the truck and left. i proceded to the hotel to check in.the next morning i checked on the reefer unit the next morning and it showed 26 deegrees and the vehicle was secure so i went back to the hotel room .around 1300 hrs i checked again and the reefer showed 59 degrees so i thought to myself this doesnt seem right.i grabbed the satelite and went to a message screen and typed what i saw.a message came back stating call break down.im thinking how do i do that ? i got to admit i was so pissed at the trainer for leaving me in a truck for 3 days at a truck stop that i didnt call him.i guess by sheer luck he happened to come by the truck amd begain calling me on my cell.when i answered he began to yell where are you u didnt tell me u were in a hotel.i told him look i am a grown man i dont have to tell u anything and i also stated i was here 2 days and u never checked to see if i were dead or alive.back to the reefer turns out it needed re-fueling.more later:biggrin_25518:

    good thing you checked the reefer. that would have been very expensive,boo boo.:biggrin_2555: normally during the summer, those things run constantly,have to keep and eye on them. won't be so bad during the winter months.

    update,my trainer and i had a physical altercation i had to show this young boy that he was dealing with 6ft.5 275lb man.really wasnt physical he ran after the first lick connected.after that ordeal off to the bus station i went after notifying the home terminal as to what happened.they were very disappointed in their so called trainer and wanted me to stay and wait for another trainer to arrive and pick me up.this company has left a bitter taste in my mouth about working for thenm so im home now putting in applications to other trucking companies.

    i wasnt expecting that at all.kinda surprised me but i had to show this boy he was pushing a real man.to bad he caught the brunt of the lick with an open hand..a slap if u will.kinda like u slap a real ( B ).i must say that boy had some deer in him because he ran so fast and far in a short distant like a scalded dog...later i will post about my new company :biggrin_25525:

    Durrty so sorry to hear how bad its been for you. You really don't need to be stuck with that "scalded dog" do you? Hopefully you can find a good company to go with. Too bad you couldn't just use another of Trans Am's trainers, but I can't say that I blame you for not wanting to get burned twice. Good luck. Keep us posted.
