Even if you attend orientation and discovered that everything that you were told was a lie and left. Can the company put you on the DAC as an employee even though you never earned a paycheck?

No. Unless you complete orientation and are assigned an employee ID...technically you were never hired. So, a company cannot make statements about your "employment history" unless you were an "employee"!
-
Yes, actually they can and do. No, not as an employee but they do list that you were at orientation. This is why you ALWAYS list any jobs or orientations you had. Be prepared to explain why you left orientation. When I was in orientation at Willis Shaw I was asked why I did not complete an orientation a few years before. I had totally forgot that. Here is a link to a website that explains what DAC is and what they record.

Some will put it on your DAC and some won't. Reallly depends on the cicumstances. You can get a free copy of your DAC and check if you really need to know.
And if anyone at another company asks you why you didn't finish orientation just tell the truth. Or just say you didn't want to drive Prostars. -
Generally speaking a small mom and pop will not be part of DAC. However most if not all of the big companies DO. The biggest thing though that will trip you up especially if you have drove for mom and pops is FMCSA regulations. You must give any prospective carrier a FULL ten year employment history! You must account for any and all gaps. This is not optional either. The carrier MUST do this checking. DAC makes this easy, this is why most carriers big and small do use DAC. As far as orientation goes most carriers will be ok with most any reason you left with two exceptions. A refusal to test or a positive drug test and being asked to leave because of YOU not being upfront about something. In my case Willis Shaw was ok with my reason, the recruiter I spoke with at the other carrier lied to me about a home terminal.

Quit under training, can be one way they ding you
Quit without notice, can be another.
they may pro-rate the orientation pay, mail it to you, now you are a former employee.
are you sure they lied to you, or you just heard what you wanted to hear, from the recruiter??
as far as checking your DAC, it may take up to, 3 months for the company you were at, to make any entries in your file. -
I was told when it comes to the big companies, once you take a drug test you are basically assigned a driver number (because they will pile your results into your driver code in their computer system.) and once that happens your an employee.
I attended an orientation for Werner (yes werner) because they "had" a local position in my area. I left orientation because once I got there that position was "just filled" but I could run dollar store regional. I laughed and left.
I was there a total of maybe three days, but my dac indicates I was with them from May to June and states I am rehireable with review.
Now here's the catch. I was always told Don't EVER leave orientation without taking your drug test as some of the more unscrupulous companies could say that you refused to take your drug test which could cause some serious headaches down the road.

A three trk outfit who was leased thru interstate put I worked there on my dac even though I didn't drive for her.I was there one day and didn't like her strict rules so her mechanic took me home.Shaffer did the same thing I was there all thru orientation getting ready to go pick up my trk in Lincoln as I'm walking out to the car they rented for me.A staff came outside told me I would have to go with a trainer for a month to learn logs .I said u knew I only knew how to do elogs before I got here now you're saying I need to go with a trainer.why a month I can learn paper logs in a week.I was more angry because Iwas told at the very last second.so I came home Shaffer is on my DAC even though I didn't get paid for those three days of orientation.so yes companies can and will put whatever they want on your DAC.

Every single orientation I ever attended started off with a drug screen followed very shortly by a physical. So the drug screen thing should not be a problem. However I know a girl that has a refusal to test on her DAC. She says the company asked her to leave before she was tested.
