In order for anything to be effective, we not only need to be very united, but also extremely organized. If no one want's to step forward to try to lead the way to a unified/organized strike, then let me know, and I will give it a try.
I am thinking that this is going to be a battle for a while, so to be the most effective, we got to think long term, and perhaps have mulitiple strikes. I think the strikes would be most effective around Holidays, such as the 4th of July. People want their fire works right?
We could try to gather everyone together, and have them take their 34 hr restart on the dates of the strikes. I am not sure though if that would mean that the freight would already be there, and then it would be against the entire point? I need lots of input/opinions.
We need to be legal to the finest degree of every Federal, State, and Local laws. Otherwise we're not going to be taken seriously, and considered just a bunch of radicals like ELF.
I am thinking to be the most effective, we need to shut down in legal spots, and with some sort of signs, and/or banners announcing what we are doing there. We should chose main arteries of the country such as I40, I35, I70, I5 etc. I5 is a bit tricky, because we are not aloud to idle in California.
Major cities will draw the most attention I think. Stock up on lots of drinks, food etc.
Anyone else have any ideas on a uniformed organized way to strike? Should we create a website?

I am not a trucker. I will be someday but that is another story. At work I was telling people about the truckers thinking of striking. Most people say good get the truckers off the road and use railcars. All they do is kill people anyway. They all seem to have a bad image of truckdrivers. They have no idea what trucking is all about. There has to be a way of getting the nontruckers involved. I am doing my part for the drivers. But most people look down at truckers. They sure seem to have a bad name out there. Good luck to all drivers.

:biggrin_2559: Do they not know where the majority of freight on trains come from? I've even hauled intermodal's to the railroad's before. Trucks bring it all.

Here is the problem that I see with it. 3 million trucks with how many different companies not counting O/O's? When union factories strike there is sometimes a gain. Look at Anderson IN though. My hometown. Home of the World Headquarters for GM. (Past tense) All I remember was strikes growing up. My Dad and all my other family members would picket. They were organized. What came of it? The town is almost a ghost town now. All those good paying factory jobs they had are gone. Now instead of 20 some bucks an hour and up jobs are being done by other factories that took GM's place. 8 bucks an hour now.

Trucking strikes are to hard to regulate. You don't want mexican trucks delivering for 10 cents a mile here? Try shutting everyone down then. The 40 cpm jobs will be a standard 20 cpm after the fact. Newbies will be flocking to drive for 15 cpm. America will run another industry off to another country. Look at how many different nationalities we have driving now. It will be like Saudia Arabia. They have 100's of different drivers. Turks, Koreans, etc. I am not saying we don't have a problem here that we don't need to fix, but I don't think a walk out will fix it. I think it will only add to the problem. Factor in medical supplies that people need to stay alive. Roadways that are jammed up with trucks in the way where a ambulance can't get to your house to save a loved one that is in need of urgent care etc.

I think someone needs to do a website and do it NOW!! Put it in google base, surely there is someone who knows about that?

If not I can help with the site, just someone else write it or just give me the space. I can do the search engine submission etc, I did a google on truckers strike and don't come up with much except stuff from the 1970s and Italy?

I would MUCH rather someone else do the website though. I just finished one for a secretary and my hand is permanently in the shape of the mouse right now.

Get some facts and figures like what the price of diesel was in say 2000 and what it is now, what the line haul rates were and the typical price of an overhaul etc. Figure up what the increase would be on a load that got $1.25 vs .90 linehaul and put .63 FSC in there instead of .39 or what the lowball figure is now and figure just how much this will add to the price of 5 lb of oranges or bananas or a head of broccoli. It's been awhile since I hauled produce but something the average consumer can relate to? Make the linehaul from Mc Allen TX to Minneapolis or Detroit which LOTS of people can relate to.

I'm the only one working in our household right now because we are striking already or I would do it.

    Just my .02 worth.
