I worked for stevens transport on and off since 2010. Its a long story but basically, I had alot of personal issues, deaths in family, miscarriage with my ex, etc etc.. I left stevens twice and was rehired each time. The last time I left was in Jan 2013 for a company that did tower work, I tower climb and run periodic runs for my boss in his Pete.. Not much driving really.. Anyway, driving is in my blood, I have missed it and felt very empty since getting off the road.. I recently applied at CR England and Prime in april.. Wel again, during that time, my dad passed away and I was unable to go to Prime*first choice.. I kept in touch with my recruiter and so forth, well in August I tried to reapply at Prime and they denied my app, would not give me reason. I fought and fought, talked to the director, friends, etc etc. I gave up for a few weeks.. Here in Sept, a friend and ex coworker who drives for prime out the blue, called me, I told him what happen and he gave me another recruiters name. I called and left voice message with the recruiter. The next day my former recruiter called me and she gave me the third degree, ripped me a new one about trying to apply again.. I was humble and kept cool, at the end of the convo, she said, "BUT you can reapply if you want".. So within 5 min I did.. lol... Next day She calls me back and was a totally different person, Very nice.. She said my app was preapproved... The next day she calls and says that she got a message from "above" to have me verify my deaths in my family... She apologized for such a out of line thing, So I did... I emailed her a copy of both my moms obit and my dads.. She apologized again and said it was because people lie in the past, I was the first that she ever had to ask that of... I was offended but yet understanding bc of how people will make any excuse.. Anyway, once that was over, she said everything was good.. I email and verbally confirmed things being "good to go".. Since she has been really nice and helpful. Anyway the point of this is and the questions I have are, first Does Prime actually check and verify things such as DAC, Back ground, etc etc.. I wonder and I am not worried bc of storied even when I was a stevens.. I personally watched numerous guys come in and get let go bc of things found out not on the app.. Most the time tho, it was major things that the person was trying to cover up.. I have none, I was honest about my 2 arrest and such other things.. I havent had a ticket in many many years, I have been arrested but never convicted, dropped charges, I have no major accidents, Ive never been fired, No drugs or failed drug test.. Anyway, the only thing I am worried about is Stevens Transport.. Stevens is notorius for given future employers a bad reference and putting anything they can on your DAC. At stevens, I had 2 small non DOT accidents, One ion 2010 during ride out training, trainer was asleep and I had been driving 11 hours, I was nervous and inexperienced, I did a pull thru at a T/S in middle of night and bumbed another trailer with my trailer.. Reported to stevens, blah blah.. 2nd was in 2011, Raining, ran my hours out, talkn on bluetooth, middle of night, again bumped a trailer.. Reported to stevens.... Anyway, I was upfront to Prime, my recuriter says that she seen those accidents and stevens verified my driving experience with them.. My worry is getting up too Orientation and leaving my current job, and getting there and BAM prime is sending me home for whatever reason, such as say.. Stevens putting some crap on my dac.. Oh the the other thing is, when I quit stevens, every single time, I drove to their yard and parked the truck their, never abandoned a truck.. Stevens made the comment the 2nd go round that I abandoned the truck on their yard... First abandoned??? Their policy states abandonment is leaving the truck any where other than an approved place or anywhere other than the YARD!! They have hit soooooo many people with that crap its unreal.. Anyway, but whats funny, is after they say that, they hired me back....... I know afew ex stevens drivers that tried to go else where and was not able to get hired because of little things such as that I just mentioned or some other bs on their dac that STEVENS embellished...
I am just very very worried about anything that could stop me from actually being hired on once I get there... We all have a story but Ive had a rough life.. I have no family but my 9 year old daughter who I live and breath for, I have lost my brother, mother, step dad, dad, grandmother, best friend and countless others in the last 10 years, I did some damage to my life with ex that caused me to lose my home, jobs, vehicles, everything.. I have had to sleep in graveyards, behind buildings, etc etc.. The last years I shrived and worked very hard to try regaining some sort of normalcy in life.. and it all started up hill when I became a "trucker".. Now I have an apartment, vehicle, job, etc etc.. I can finally be a father to my daughter after the last several years... SO yeah I worry about things that could get in my way.. such as leaving the job I am at, going up there and then getting turned away, sent back home and starting over again... Ill be 35 next month and I am very very tired.. Yes I am strong but everyone has a breaking point. I cant afford for anything other than role the dice, go to prime on the 2nd of oct and see if I actually make thru orientation... After this long boring story I just told, my question are, how much verification do they actually do before orientation?? Idk, it just seems to me that as much crap as Ive been thru already, basically fighting to get approved, that theyd be making #### sure I was hire-able before I got there lol... I mean hell I already had to verify the deaths in my family.....
Anyway, thank you to anyone that read this post, Im not trying to get pity or any of that ####.. Just wanted to show what happened so that my question could be answered more direct than an general overview.. I Know sometimes, things can be totally screwed but yet, if your unfront and honest, its more of a case by case basis... oh and I dont have medical issues.. A lil high blood pressure sometimes from stress, dont take meds either..
Last thing, Ive searched and really having found much on the topic unless Im just not looking good, but whats the prehire, orientation, OTR training, etc etc for a recently experienced driver coming to prime??? I have approx 26 total months with stevens, I currently drive hear and there when needed for my boss who has a sweet 18 speed, pete.. Maybe done 3200 miles in the last 8 months... Thank you for any help..

I worked for Stevens for 3 yrs. when I left, I gave a 2 wk notice and returned the truck to the Dallas yard. Everyone at Stevens was super friendly when I was there turning in the truck (I was alliance and had successfully completed my lease), and I was told I would be welcome to come back anytime if I so chose. They did not put anything bad on my DAC and I still get emails and calls from recruiters wanting me to come back.

Im not saying they do that to everyone, I just know several people they did do it too.. Stevens was a good company, its what you make it.. at the time I drove for them, I just had alot of my own personal issue that effected my ability to stay and be focused.. Now Im clear headed and trying to get back on the road.. I mean hell they gave no problem to prime when they verified my work history there.. I just worry alot..

I don't how much time you have but you can go to hire right web site and get a free dac report. Then at least you know what's on it. Hope everything works out bro!

Paschall Truck Lines will probably hire you if it doesn't work out with Prime. They run a lot of Texas freight and are known to give drivers a second chance. Their trucks have APU's also. You can apply online.

If you're preapproved at Prime, then they've pulled the DAC and are aware of it. You've discussed the trailer dings with your recruiter, and that Stevens tried to screw you on the DAC, yes?

If so, no worries. Make sure you bring anything you'll need to refresh your memory to orientation, because you will complete another application in pen and ink. They do that because folks who are lying about their past will frequently not remember what they put down online a few weeks ago. They need to jibe. As long as you've been truthful about everything in your past you have no worries. The usual reason for being sent home is untruthfulness about the past, hot drug tests, medical problems, prescriptions that give the doc the willies, falling asleep in orientation, being late to anything in orientation, hollerin' at folks in orientation, being irate if they ask you to do a sleep test at the terminal, any use of alcohol during orientation... most of the stuff that comes under the heading of too stupid for even a truck driver to be. You should be fine.

By the way... I had a long talk with a Stevens driver last week, and you'll be pleased to know that there is a lot less BS aimed at the driver at Prime.
