There should be at least one trainer available next week.

Hang in there, Maverick is worth it. I hauled glass for them for a year,l I came in with experience and had to wait for orientation, as well. It's the only trucking company I ever worked for that did EVERYTHING they ever said they would do. Not once did I ever get home late, I got paid every penny that I was supposed to be paid/reimbursed. If I sat on weekends they paid me for it, according to the weekend pay policy. I never, NOT ONCE, was talked down to or got treated unfairly (common with bottom-feeders). They have some of the best equipment in the industry, and well maintained (overall). Be patient, show up for orientation (early, never on time), keep your mouth shut and only ask questions when you truly don't understand something...and you'll be fine. And remember...DON'T WALK ON THE GRASS! They'll literally send you packing for that.

I have recently graduated from CDL school and have a pre hire offer from Maverick for the glass division. Any advice on what orientation and training will be like.

Marathon, I wish I had some advice and insight on orientation as well as training. I am still waiting to get into orientation. I am getting very discouraged waiting. The problem is that their are 8 recruiters at Maverick. Only four recruiters are available to get guys into orientation per week. Out of these 4 recruiters only 1 to 2 trainers come available to them. So this number gets cut in half again. On top of this if their is a dedicated position comes up they get priority. My recruiter has only got to get 2 people into glass orientation since October 1st. I feel if they used a list of all applicants pre-hire date and went down it things would go quicker then waiting for your recruiter to get a spot. Then you wait on their individual list. If things don't happen soon I'm going o have to look into one of the other companies I had received pre-hires from. I exhausted all of my unemployment benefits last week and will not be able to survive without a income soon.

i wish you the best of luck. I will continue to update this post as to my status and experience.

I'd worry more about the flatbed training (steel, wood, etc), which is most of the barn training in orientation. The glass training will be the last part of it. You'll mostly be hauling glass but there are times when you'll haul flatbed loads. Some people will tell you that glass is easier, for me the flatbed loads are easier, either way just be prepared for physical work. The driving is the easiest part.

As far as your question...orientation, you'll have classroom and barn training on a daily basis. Pay attention, take notes and always ask questions if you don't understand something. Maverick has no problem getting you a bus ticket home if at any time they don't think you'll make it. They're really big on safety, so always do things safely in the barn. When you do the physical/DOT exam at some point they'll take you to a tractor and have you enter and exit the cab, make sure you use the 3-point entry/exit, and and the the exact same thing in reverse when exiting (just like in CDL school), if it's not done correctly you're automatically gone right then. Don't EVER walk on the grass...automatic bus trip home. Don't stare at the women (they have quite a few good looking ones). Don't curse (at least not where anyone can hear you and be offended). When you're in the barn...make sure to be active, they don't like people who watch others doing the work. Remember, on-time is late. Be ready for class earlier than start time.

I can't give any advice on going out with a trainer, I never did that, but I'd assume if you have a strong work ethic and a good safety awareness that you'll be just fine.

I just went through orientation last week and am in securement training this week. All the hype from everyone I talked to about the training had me really nervous but after being here IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL!!!!!!! Act like an adult, do stay off the grass, but even some of the office employees walk on the grass. And the physical portion is no big deal, the most out of shape guy in class made it fine. As far as swearing, the one instructor used the s*** word over 100 times by 10:00 the first day we had them, so not as big a deal as everyone thinks, but I don't cuss anyways.

This company so far is awesome, everyone will help you with ANYTHING you need. Loving it so far.

Great to hear you are doing so well. I am waiting for a spot to open up and will be calling Maverick tomorrow to see if I will be attending the next available class for orientation. I am not sure how many trainers are available for the glass division. Thanks for the heads up on what to expect. Keep up the good work and be safe !

They typically get one trainer for glass a week divided by 8 recruiters, sometimes none sometimes two but it's hard. There is one guy here that started a week before me and I didn't find out if there are any glass guys in the class that started today. I waited since the first week in September to come last week during thanksgiving which meant we have to cram everything in since we lost two days. But I am having fun here!!
