Thanks for these updates bnrobot! I've been following this thread for a while now. For the most part you seem to be happy with Melton.

    Safe travels!

So I'm waiting to be unloaded at a home Depot DC in Minneapolis. My appointment time was 8am and I picked up 10 hours as soon as 1am hit (since I stopped at 3pm yesterday due to only having 8 hours). I will probably still be run on recap for a bit. Woke up and started driving at 1 am to get here... Just made it at 750am. I had about 350 miles to go as of last night.

I have 3 hours left over for the day, so I'm not sure where they will send me.

Yes gr8dane for the most part I'm pretty happy. Still getting miles, got a small raise, and a dm I get along with I will say there isn't much to complain about. I'll be putting my hometime request in tomorrow. It seems they keep me East most of the time and the only time I go west is for hometime. Don't have a problem with that. Just would like to go everywhere eventually.

You'll go everywhere eventually, nearly a year with Melton now and the only states I haven't been to are Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Year and a half pulling van before Melton and I hadn't gone past Pittsburgh.

Good thread, especially the first few pages, have a question not covered in those, what is the pay rate for the training period ?, you mentioned tarp"g, does that pay go to you or trainer or split?
I started a thread "What can you tell me about Melton", " Want some input from the working joe"s as opposed to a recruiter".And after a week JoeyJunk put a link up for me to find, well all of you guy's, and Mrh2008 said Melton has a ?sub forum?, i guess that would be here, maybe why i could"t find the place after surfing around.

pay rate for training period is 70$ per day. technically you are working 7 days, so 490$ a week. thats what my checks came out to.

tarping is 40$ total. 20$ to tarp, 20$ to untarp. this goes to your trainer while training. if you are doing all the work its up to him to give it to you. mine split it with me whenever we had to tarp, we did it together. they are not obligated to though. i spent it on snacks for us whenever we stopped.
pay rate is .33 a mile after you are in your own truck.

benefits for my daughter and i comes out to 42$ a week. taken from each check. they offer you 20k$ life insurance for free, and i opted for extra insurance and it came out to a lil less than 2$ a week.
you wont get benefits taken out til your 3rd month...but thought id include that.

ive recieved 'holiday pay' twice now. it is $30. i believe they give it to you if you are on the road during a holiday.

over dimensional pay is an extra .08 per mile. ive done 2 of those loads.
its an extra .06 per mile if you have a hazmat or canada load.

if you have a multi stop load, its $25 per stop. they will also give extra if you had to retarp during those stops...i think it was $15 extra but i do not remember.

knowing what you are getting paid is important, so thats why i am trying to include everything that i remember.
    any other questions just ask!

Not gonna quote your whole post, but thanks bnrobot for the info, i presume from what your saying that your in your own truck, if you don"t mind my asking and it just hit me you could P.M. it, whats your take home at the end of a week ? I understand it will fluctuate because of the different loads & extra"s ( Guesstimate ). They got a pet policy? From the day you stepped on the bus, how long did it take till you got back home?

yes you can bring a pet. lots have em on the truck.

from when i stepped on bus it was a friday so i could make orientation by monday.
orientation was 4 days. that next weekend we were allowed to use the company van because trainers werent going to be ready til sunday/monday. stayed in hotel til then.
training was 3 weeks. i was on my own truck after 3 weeks and 3 days. they give you the option to get a load home as soon as you are on your own. so i couldve went home by then....so about 4 weeks. i chose to not go home yet and drive for a few more weeks and got home after 8 weeks total. from the bus ride to home. but that was my choice.

There a section for melton threads under motorcarrier questions<trucking company forums<melton. Shows 100+ threads posted, I don't really knows what's in them, I only post in a couple. I'll try to link it, not sure if that will work for me.
