No. But the FMCSA does require the defroster for the windshield to work. They don't care if you sweat.

That’s true, in modern vehicles when you switch to defrost, the a/c compressor kicks in. If the compressor does not kick in, is the defrost system still considered ‘operational’?

If it has it from factory it needs to work in order to pass a DOT/MOT safety inspection but OSHA doesnt care.....

This is all wrong info. None of the safety systems need to work to pass a dot inspection, neither do all the lights.

Not true. The nanny systems, extra lights do not have to work. If they are not required equipment per the Green book, they do not have to work.
As far as the A/C kicking on with the defroster, again, the FMCSA doesn't require it. 393.79 only requires a defroster. Incidentally, they do not require a working heater in the truck. Only the defroster.

@Flint1 what's the book say on A/C needing to work to pass a CVIP?

I'm going to assume no since I had a company truck pass CVIP with the A/C broken.

These are federal regulations, not state. If u got violation for one of those then they were wrong.
