OTR And T-Mobile

I switched to Verizon from TMobile before I did the whole smart phone thing.

 

T-Mobile was not good for me being that I use my phone for a Hotspot for my Internet. The speed isn't the best either unless you're In a 4g zone which isn't much more than bigger towns, when I was outside of larger towns it was always 3g or even 1x, going out west or In a really wooded area I had absolutely no coverage . Switched to Verizon and coverage is excellent, had 4g LTE service on 80% of the 15 through Utah where there was NOBODY. Speed is awesome and if there's no 4G or 3G I at least have service. But, of course there are dead zones here and there.

 

You'll probably find T-Mobile is not a great choice for OTR truckers regarding data. Is great if your in/around larger cities, but in between them, it's hit and miss. Look in the forum section dedicated to cellular technology for more info. And in CO, you can probably forget about having data once you get off of I-25

 

One word of advise regarding using T-mobile for OTR:

DON'T

There are broad swaths of the country where you can be out of service area for days. Verizon or AT&T are much better options. I started OTR with T-mobile and it was extremely frustrating to be unable to make or receive calls, texts, or access the internet.

I'm using Verizon now and it's rare to be out of range.

 

Watching Netflix in the Mojave right now (y) but yes it's a little pricey, but for the service you get its not too bad

 

I have the best experience. I have metro pcs (which is owned by tmobile) and my teammate has tmobile. I dont know if you care about data or not but when i dont have data he doesnt. When i do he does. Im convinced they are using the same network and just charging tmobile customers twice as much. I will stick with metro for now.

 

I'm guessing that the 1x comment was a mistake or a typo as T-mobile will never go onto 1x. 1x is a CDMA technology (Sprint and Verizon). T-mobile will have LTE, 3g and EDGE (2G)


While I don't think this is a problem for most new phones or most drivers if you will be driving in canada also make sure the phone can work on GSM/HSDPA as in a very near future there (Next year) there will be on CDMA coverage to roam on in Canada due to Bell and Telus shutting down their service. (I think Telus already did shut down their network.)

 

Yeah I meant Edge, I was thinking my Verizon phone.
