OTR driver state taxes.Where do you pay?

Arkansas liked to take 6% so that 2001-2002 filing against 67000 gross became a 4100 dollar arkansas tax bill.

Perdiem deducted 13700 dollars, my 100 to arkansas and 75 to federal provided another. 10400 (5200 per me and per wife both of us deducting against our individual payrolls.) from Arkansas and about 7800 total federal about 3900 each of us filing jointly

I forget the exact refund check but its in the 5 figures and established a corner stone of savings for the 2002 year. Uncle Sam's taxes vaporized that year. I forget what it would have been against 67000 and standard deduction only. Probably on the order of around. 14000.00 PErdiem took care of that and the other two excess withholding was enough for a nice little refund (At zero interest anyway, the bank only paid 0.2 interest a few years later... so there is no point. Call it 22000 refund give or take a little. Uncle Sam always gets a cut.

The excess withholding worked ery well for us. If we continued to run out the 2002 knowing the medical issues that year may or may not have been so big in the filing cabinet.

Drunken on money, out of trucking and doctors billing we asked each other what would we do with our future?

College.

46000 dollars wired to Uncle sam 13 years after that College Converstation. Worthless 4 year and a worthless progress towards a two year which is itself worthless. There is no journey here with the rare exception of about 40 Jedi Knights moving into upperclass, doctorates and Masters degrees among others that are even higher than that.

Maybe one day they will return to earth with a thump and then learn to breathe again as they wail about how hard it is to et into a GS 15 positon.

There is a Roman Story about Icarus I believe who was full of himself flying near the sun because ordinary man should not fly according to the Gods of the day. Such Hubris.

The children were decent to us in the class room. But being twice their age and have 4 classmates twice our age trying to get a leg up above minimum wage... was a experience. Made worse by empty chairs of those called to the 39th Infantry to go to war.
