Usually if I'm the only one who sees a problem, there's really not a problem.

You wanna fix something that ain't broke, and doesn't appear to be breaking

What's the average age? It's 1 #, an average, not late 40's/50's. Where did you pull that #?

My uncle was a trucker in the 1940's and he said the same. Every generation says the same and blames the prior generation, because they can't cope as adults. It's always someone else's fault when a person is an unhappy failure.

Nature of the business. Trucks don't make money sitting in a parking lot so they need to be moving. You can be home more if you want but you will either have to find a niche that pays more per load to offset the time off or accept making less money in the end.

Buy your own truck with a big super sleeper then and haul freight that weighs less to offset you increased empty weight.

So do many other jobs. We used to be able to do it on paper only but people abused it to the point that having it done electronically is required now. Pretty much anybody operating a vehicle for work is required to log the usage of that vehicle and where they go. This isn't unique to truck drivers.

I have never once worried about having a safe place to park. Planning your day properly and having backup plans means no having to worry about it. You might have to adjust your schedule a little bit but there is plenty of options. If I'm going into an area known for tough parking I'll just reserve a spot ahead. Paid reserve parking is one of my favorite things these days. Even better when the place actually enforces it.

If the deny you a bathroom then just leave? I've dropped my trailer in a customers building before when the refused to let me use a bathroom while unloading. If your employer thinks that's a good reason to fire you then you are better off not working for them anyways as they clearly don't respect you either. I haven't asked for permission to use the bathroom in 20 years. They can either let me use it or I'll go find someplace. Whether that's their parking lot or a gas station nearby.

Don't work for places that have those then. Any place that has them is almost certainly on the lower end of the pay scale.

Again so is literally anybody driving a vehicle for a living. Have a dashcam and drive safe and legal and you should have nothing to worry about.

Good. This can be a very sedantary job with driver who are lazy who eat absolute garbage every day. If you are physically unsafe to drive a truck then you shouldn't be driving one. Keep your body healthy and this is a non issue.

This is a choice. Foldable bicycles and E bikes are pretty compact these days. Get one and you can go as far as you feel like pedaling a bike. Most truck stops are also easily within walking distance of a town so go for a walk. Grab an uber or lyft if your stuck taking a day off someplace. There are so many ways to not be stuck in the truck.

Pretty much all of the issues you listed above are problems of working for a mega carrier hauling drybox freight. It's the easiest freight that attracts the laziest drivers who just aren't worth a whole lot. They provide no useful skills other than driving and thats an over saturated market right now. Get into something specialized and niche and there is lots of money to be made and a lot more home time available.

The average age for OTR drivers being higher makes sense. People in their 20s and 30s are far more likely to have kids at home who they want to be around for. Older people's kids will have grown up at that point so they now have the freedom to go OTR without missing their kids.

Reminds me of the quote "I'd like to buy you for what you're worth and sell you for what you think your worth."

@BeHereNow97 get a local job and quit worrying about not getting paid for all your time at work. If you don't mind running a pallet jack and liftgate or running linehaul at night, you can be making 100k pretty quick.

Why must anyone justify their pay to YOU? WHATEVER a job pays, it only matter to the employer and the employee. This may be hard to read and understand, but many of us never even think to get permission from others online before deciding if a job pays enough or not.

Everyone spends differently, doesn't live in the same location, doesn't have the same size family, and doesn't have the same goals as every other person. If you want to hate your job, go ahead. If you want to hate another driver's job, go ahead. If you want to pronounce the inadequacy of the pay in the industry, go ahead. Until you are appointed Chief Payroll Decider, your opinion on others' pay is not all that important. You think some driver should NOT take a job if he likes the pay and working conditions because you feel he should get more pay? How much are you going to pay him?

Go recruit for the commie revolution elsewhere. It pays a lot better, I'm sure.

Why do you think the world needs to know what you think about any job but the one you chose to do? You want everyone to be as miserable at their job as you are at your job, for some reason. Waste your life however you like.
