I wouldn't worry about comparing a good running 425 mechanical with a 18 speed to a 435 C15 with a 10 speed. That 435 with a 10 speed is a dog.

When I sold my 425 with 18 speed and got 6NZ 475 with 18 speed I took a step backward, but it was a very strong 425
Edit: I ran a lot of the pacific NW lived in MontanaOxbow Thanks this. -

My electronic options are 3406e, Detroit 60 or N14. All those are good, all those that I’ve found in my price range have been in beat up trucks. There’s a 1999 W900 south of Salt Lake I want to look at as well. It’s a 550 Cat with a 15 speed and 3.36s. Looks like it’s in immaculate shape as well, and maybe a better truck than the old 379.

BigCam9670, bigguns, SAR and 4 others Thank this.

The 425 probably puts more down to the tires than a 500 electronic engine

Someone that I like about the B engine is it seems similar to the P-pump 12V Cummins. I intimately know those, and how to crank the power out. It’s fun in my mind to turn wrenches to crank up some power versus turning a dial on a power module. So long as I don’t break a crank or something.

How are the sleepers in the older 379s? Is there room to stand up? How’s parts availability for the 3406B? I’m torn between this 379 and another one that just popped up for sale that has a Detroit 60 12.7 430/470.
