Lots of segments like that. Logging you might wait 20 minutes or so for the truck ahead of you to finish loading. Maybe that much again on the other end at the mill.

Even gravel/paving doesn't seem to have a whole lot of ### time. Load up and get to the paver while its still hot!

I don’t have shot with me in training. Ain’t my truck. I’ve already learned this job. Ain’t rocket science as we all know. The waiting does suck but once I had my own truck, my computer, my guitars, my own ship it would be fine. It’s doable but as I said, I came to realize that for me and my wife I’d rather only be out 5-7 days then home. LTL, Linehaul stuff is definitely in my future.

how about those FedEx contractor gigs?

Find a different company... One that gets you home every 10 days or so... I run an average of 3700 miles in 5 to 8 days and then take 1 to 4 days off at home. I make good money AND can still have a life.

If you're only in training. Then you don't know this job. Just a part of it. Assuming you do is dangerous.

Wise words not said enough. As soon as you think you know everything there's to know about trucking. Is when you should quit. Else you will be a danger to everyone else.

I will be the first to say I don't know everything about this job.

Listen I don't have any beef with you. You came here looking for advice. Sometimes that advice isn't going to be what you want to hear. It doesn't make it wrong. Too many people come in and think they know everything there's to know after a short time. It just isn't the case. I am sharing my experience to help you. Not to argue with you.

Who said they knew everything? I said I know this job. The parameters and how to go about doing it as well as anyone can. No one knows everything and situations come up where you seek help or use your best judgement. This particular job is very easy. Maybe your truck driving jobs have been more complicated but for me, this one is easy. I do not require 4 months of training to do it as Prime now requires based on mileage (60k)...YMMV
