Speaking from personal experience, if money sits in the bank too long it tends to get spent on "toys" or frivolity, better to put a chunk of it in real estate as a kind of forced savings that you can't easily access. -
The '90' in his user name is indicative of year of birth. This means he's 27, broke as a joke, and looking to save dimes for dreams. The 'Zen' bit....... I've my doubts.
That's the way I heard it.Last edited: Sep 3, 2017

They're available; some have 2 apartments downstairs and 2 upstairs. Some, they're all ground floor apartments.
It's not uncommon at all for truckers to do that.
www.propertyvegas.com has some good deals on duplexes, 4-plexes, etc. that would make good rental property. Some are a little rough looking, but they're cheap and would rent easily. The real estate agent that helps you buy property, can usually manage it for you also; collect rent, have repairs done and all that.Last edited: Sep 3, 2017
Rocknroller4 Thanks this. -
I would guess you could justify paying your parents a similar amount for each day you spend at your tax home as you might pay at a low to mid priced hotel nearby, maybe $50 per day. If you are only home every few weeks/months for a day or two, the cost is both affordable and justifiable.
I don't know of any states that allow you to establish residence with just a P.O. Box. Even South Dakota, which is probably the easiest no income tax state wants you to use a physical address, which can be a mail-forwarding service. -
NY will let you be free of their income tax if you establish residency in another state and don't spend more than 184 days in NY a year. Since he can't claim where he actually lives (the truck) as his domicile, I say he can pick anywhere in the country that he spends time earning his income without being accused of trying to defraud anyone.
Just because he was born someplace doesn't mean he is obligated to pay taxes there for the rest of his life. Or are you arguing that we should all have to journey back to our ancestral homes for a census and payment of tax on occasion? All the inns would be full and you'd probably end up sleeping in some manger. People would be talking about it for millennia.Redtwin and KillingTime Thank this. -
He wants to live tax free? Then move! Living... or being homeless.... however you want to word it - in a truck is a pretty shoddy long term goal, IMO. Because guess what happens if you crash your house.... ya ain't living there anymore!TaterWagon#62 Thanks this. -
I'm doing the Florida thing too .
I had (1) government letter and (1) bank statement with the Florida address sent to an address and also had the person living there write up a note stating that I live there .It was that simple , there is a list of what you have to bring to the tax collector to get the drivers license as it is a "real i.d." state
I'm not scamming anybody I have no home and visit different people around the U.S. so why pay income taxes when I don't live in an income taxed state ?
