I had to take chains across Eisenhower and Vail to a driver that CO Hwy Patrol turned around and sent back to the rest area.

It was a pretty good snowstorm so it took me awhile to get there from Denver. He called me five times at least asking where I was, each time sounding more stressed out. By the time I got there it was getting late in the day and I knew he wasn't going to know how to put them on, so I gave him a crash course.

He indicated that he was going to roll all the way from the rest area, through the roundabouts through town (Edwards I think) then down I-70 on wet pavement back to the chain-up area and over the passes. After what I saw coming over, I thought it was a horrible idea to be crossing the passes in the dark in those conditions by someone who was that clueless. But the dispatcher told him the load had to be there. I often wonder what happened after.

We take 3 weeks during summer for a bike trip to different areas of the US and we take 3 weeks during winter for back to back music cruises around the Caribbean...
    Breaks the monotony up.
    Almost can't wait for winter.

That's very easy to do lol, I am 10 years in and I have never chained. Not that I dont know how to do it, but to me it seems counterproductive. It has to be a pretty good amount of snow fall to require chains, which in that type of elevation, it any snow will be significant. Many parts of Colorado is difficult to travel without chains and in dry weather, particularly between Denver and Grand Junction. Then you have to crawl at 30 miles per hour. For me, conventional wisdom says, chain law in effect, then my personal parking law will be in effect lol

    I agree.
If chains are required, then I require myself to shut it down.

And no desk jockey is going to 'convince' me otherwise.

Makes no sense to chain. To me that's an indicator that isnt all that safe. Many people fuss about the east coast states shutting down during heavy snow. I am alright with it. They love there and can say better than me. Itll protect some super truckers from getting too arrogant

Drivers who use to work for mines sometime have to chain up every two hours even at summer. When it's rainy. Just to go down mine and back.

I’ve been staying south, the past few winters. Took a lot of time off, this summer. Nice weather up here, summertime.

Sometimes I prefer winter. Less construction and less traffic overall.
