Hi, I'm south of Nashville, looking to get back in it after being off the road working a non cdl job since September 2011. I just got turned down for a local run because of my experience not being recent enough. Tried a couple places out of Smyrna and have an app in with Averitt. Anyone else running into this? I have about 7 years total driving, no accidents, clean mvr(2 tickets in last three years, only tickets ever)ran all 48 and Canada, local, over the road, regional, drove all kinds of trucks, all dry van. I even got a copy of my DAC today and it's clean. Has something changed since September? Kind of getting frustrated and don't really like putting my life history and dl numbers, etc into a dozen or so applications. Any info/advice/anything is appreciated. Thanks

Companies don't like work driving gaps. Might be an insurance thing thinking you lost all your driving skill in 9months and now your a risk. Pretty lame!

Try Beacon Transport out of LaVergne, or Mesilla Valley Transportation, they have a terminal in Nashville, also try Big G Express in Shelbyville

yeah what is the deal with this? i'd like to take a few months off but i am afraid to do it because companies want recent experience. can't you just sign on with one of the big companies and go out with a trainer for a month as a refresher? or go to a cheap school? i have a lot of money saved but doubt i'll ever get to enjoy it because i am too afraid to leave the road for more than a week.....

Keep us posted, as I've been at a non-CDL gig for about 8 months, and I'm itching to get back on the road. I don't really want to start over though, as i have about 9 years of clean CDL experience.

Yeh, that title was kind of misleading. My bad on that. I'd understand more if I had a bad record, refusals, accidents, felonies, etc, but it's not a safety issue. I'm eligible for rehire at every job I've had per my DAC with great references. Empty trucks do not generate any revenue and the more trucks you have on the road for your company running freight, the more money you and your company make. Isn't that the reason, even if we love the job, that we are all in this or any business? Anyways, still trying. Thanks for the info all.
