So I've finally had enough. If any of you guys have ever traveled through the Washington D.C. area (I-495, I-66, I-95) then you know that getting directions, finding ways around an accident (that can be a daily task), etc., is next to impossible in this corridor. The problem is so rediculous that hours and hours of work is often lost due to having to navigate streets "blind", with absolutely no communications with other drivers, because of the actions of very regular, very local "operators" refusing to allow drivers to talk. As they so often tell drivers that are lost..."if you want to talk up here, you have to pay". BS!

The last Friday of EVERY month is what these idiots call "Super-trucker Appreciation Day". On this day communication IS impossible. From the early moring hours to well into the evening nothing but insults, jokes, "probation", etc. is handed out to any driver that makes the mistake of leaving their radio on. The MAIN person responsible for this day (as with most any other day of the month) goes by the CB handle: COOLBREEZE - BASE LOCATION: WILDERNESS VA, MOBILE LOCATIONS: FREDERICKSBURG VA, RESTON VA, FAIRFAX VA, HERNDON VA AND surrounding areas.

This is the only thing I know to do at this point, and that is...LIST THE "HANDLES" AND APPROX. LOCATION IN ORDER TO HAVE THEM SOUGHT OUT AND SHUT DOWN. I do not know the appropriate steps in this process, so, I ask those of you that do, those that honestly want to help others, to direct the following info to the appropriate agency, HAM club, whatever... Simply put, the following need to be brought down as it has become so bad in the area that only a select few are able to transmit with any success. Those select few have formed a "network" that they like to call "The CoolBreeze Network". (starting to become pretty obvious who is the real problem huh..)

Call me a NARC, call me what you like. I'm just flat sick of not being able to carry on a civil conversation (on any channel if they find you), sick of being insulted and harassed, sick of it period. Run power if you'd like, but seriously, act like an adult! I have spent a great amount of time listening and documenting the following, maybe someone will finally actually do something about it! Washington D.C. was used as a center point of the radius referenced. These guys are using SERIOUS power. I'm not talking 1000, 2000, or even 3000 watts, I'm talking 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 watts! And yes, I have confirmed through some very creative ways that the wattage mentioned above is fact. Some I have met in person, and have seen with my own eyes. Some boldly admit to the wattage they are using to "cut lips off". So...

I'm sure that I will catch alot of flak for this post. Some will question my credibility, some will question my source, so will question the method(s) in which I have collected this information. I may even be booted from this site for calling out what is a valid public nuisance. I'm sure I will be insulted, called a snitch, narc, rat, or whatever. All of those things are fine with me if that is what "gets your rocks off". Whatever. My sole intention is to draw attention to the aboved mentioned in hopes of shutting them down for good. Two of the above have already recieved their 1st warning from the FCC. My hope is the right person will receive this post and take appropriate action to stop the onslaught of insults and inability to communicate as a result of the outlandish behavior of those mentioned above.

Thanks to anyone that attempts to help!

So tell us how you REALLY feel?:biggrin_25516:

Just kidding. It sucks around here, too.
I live fairly close to a tollway and other major local trucker routes. I like to listen to trucker ####-chat and give local directions when I can. It has become useless over the last few weeks since skip conditions have let me hear every kook from here to LA using beeps, music, unintelligble ramblings, etc.
I usually end up turning the CB off after a minute or 2

The clowns that you describe enjoy causing trouble for its own sake, and there is really nothing that you can do about it. The FCC lost interest in policing the CB service long ago, and only get invloved if someone interferes with an emergency service.

Perhaps you and others can petition the FCC to create a new band allocation for your use in the 70 cm region. A license to use it could be granted when you get your CDL, so no special testing would be needed.

(Yes, I know that parts of 70cm (420-450) is in the Ham band allocation, but a certain section could be carved out for truckers use)

Good luck with that. They tried that a long time ago....back in 1973 to be exact. They tried to put the CB service at 220 MHz but it was quickly shot down. Too bad though, it would have made CB more reliable and you could run smaller antennas with exceptional range.

OP, best you can do is contact the FCC and report these jokers when you hear them. The FCC might get involved. If they don't take any action, then your only other options are to deal with it or just turn off the radio.

OR....if have the time to find where these clowns live, and you don't mind being a vandal, you could insert a pin in their coax...then snip the ends off so it's flush with the coax sheathing. Next time one of those jokers keys up, he'll let the magic smoke out of his amp/radio. :biggrin_2559:

Yes, heard about that. My suggestion was not to relocate the CB service, just to grant a small portion of another band that would be exclusive to truckers. Other interest groups have already had their designs on that portion of the spectrum - lookup "H. R. 607 - A bill to Enhance Public Safety", where part of the band was supposed to be reassigned to "public safety". If one can justify doing that, one could also justify allocating a section to truckers since they provide essential services to the public at large - ie food, medicine, etc.
I'm not saying that it must come from the 70 cm band, only that a solution could be found to satisfy the legitimate trucker use and abandon the 11 meter band for any kind of serious use - let the kiddies play on 11 meters and maybe they will stay away from the other bands.:yes2557:

All the idiots would just modify or buy equipment and still be a nuisance to drivers. They get some sort of peverse thrill from being a pain in someone's arse.

The manufacturers could embed nanotech "Search and Destroy" bots into the equipment that would be programmed to activate when the user plays music, uses a roger beep, or utters certain words or phrases stored in a look-up table.:biggrin_25523:
