Let them force me! Love to see them try, aint gonna happen. Besides I wouldn't stay there anyway because I don't shrivel at the thought of moving my truck in that situation. If you sit and worry about all the little ######## like this that "could" happen go home and find another job. Not meant to you personally but alot of people just ain't cut out for this job that are attempting to do it anymore. The cold hard truth.
Also if your worried about the satellite " telling on you" aluminum foil does wonders.

Not trying to incite a riot, but this is a real problem for some drivers who have to deal with "the electronic rat". And sooner than you think we will all have the devices in our trucks! There is nothing you can do about it, the gov't wants EOBRs in EVERY commercial vehicle. So this will only become a bigger problem for all of us. Do you think there is a shortage of truck parking now? Just wait and see, it will get worse!
Customers are going to have to be more flexible and efficient when scheduling appts and loading/unloading trucks.
Verbaly abusing people will not make this go away either! It's time we use our considerable creativity and energy towards more construcive endeavors instead of belittling or making fun of people.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Aluminum foil does not replace the ECM communication that is sent when the unit makes connection after the act of the foil.
The law and policies with these things will make life very interesting for all of us. No longer will we be able to just move the truck without a violation. The last company I drove for that had this system told me to park on the street in front of houses by the sign that said no parking for 10 hours. Tickets would be my problem. -
There is no law pertaining to this! Some magical statute the states that some cop can sign your log and that's a pass to ignore the H.O.S. rules for "just long enough to get to a place to park" I can't give you a link to a law that doesn't exist...I've heard driver regurgitating this garbage for years and It's never been based in any kind of fact.
PURE IDIOCY!
You want to test the theory? Knock youself out...I'll see you at the scales when they put you O.O.S. and write you a fat ticket for the H.O.S. violation!
But hey! No worries! You can just call the U.S. Marshalls and they'll come riding in on their pretty white horses and give that stupid D.O.T. man a good talking to...They'll show him! -
The cold hard truth of the matter is:
My husband could be kicked off the lot at ADM after them running his clock out. He's on his way to a place to park and take his 10, say 5 minutes from the place at 2am. Now, some drunk 4 wheeler runs into the back of him. LEO sees hubby was out of hours, and shouldn't have been there in the first place. 4 Wheelers Insurance company gets a hold of that information and puts the screws to us, our home and our lively hood. NOW WHAT???
He has nothing in writing proving that he was forced to move, and as OSH points out, the only person responsible for your truck and you is YOU!
Think this can't happen? I know a man who lost everything because of this exact scenario.
He's now in school retraining to do something else, as he lost his truck, his home, and his will to drive. Who can blame him. The place he loaded denied that they forced him to move. He couldn't prove that anyone told him he couldn't stay there and what company will implicate them self in this kind of situation.........none.billsgirl Thanks this. -
I'm not saying this can't happen because we all know it can. This is eventually going to affect all of us.
Exactly why I said let them force me to move. -
Well I understand that it doesn't replace the communication but it does block it and it will be confused when it regains signal. It's also illegal.
But so is speeding, lying, fudging, blah bah blah.
I agree things will get interesting in the near future.
Exactly why I make ALL the decisions when I'm driving cause it's my arse. Dispatch might tell me what to do but I make my own choices and if they don't like it oh well. -
I made my choice and told them. I was going to a truck stop. Warm food, shower. I had no shower for the week the way they ran me. No time on the freight to eat or shower and not much to even fuel. All short runs and spending nights at the dock.
Their solution was a week off without pay. -
Well I understand what your saying. I would have told them a week wasn't enough that I was taking permanent leave without pay.
-
I got Christmas week off that way. Went back to them for a couple of weeks.
They wanted me to sit all day at 9 am after just getting up and then loading at 7 pm to drive all night in the snow to Detroit MI. Deliver at 7 am then after getting empty at the warehouse, get reloaded while on the 10 hour break and then drive over night again.
Told them to get load to yard to clean out truck. Not going to run illegal.
