Hello....I am a trucker that has been out of trucking for 3 years. I had been driving for 6 years before I left the profession due to personal reasons. Now that I want to get back to it NO ONE will hire me because of not having recent experience. How do you get back? it's not like I forgot how to do the job. Any advice to what i can do?
Out of luck

refresher course.

I was out 3 1/2 years following 8 years in a truck. I called around and Schneider said if I had one year experience in the previous 5, I could road test with them. I did, passed, and off I went. This, however, was back in 2007, before the economy went soft. I believe they've tightened up their requirements since then.
Refresher course may be your only track, but call around and see. Good luck!jimbozz Thanks this. -
First off, don't go with the big companies. They are ridiculous. Try looking at Craigslist or your local paper for any owner operators or smaller companies that may be looking for someone. Don't pay for a refresher course. Don't go to a company like Werner or Swift where some dope 6 months out of school will be your "trainer". Keep looking in your own backyard first. Even a temp to hire place is better for 6 months to show recent driving.

I second everything Buscuit75 said. Craigslist and/or a local temp agency. That will get you recent experience and if you're lucky it can also get you hired into a decent local company.

My husband papabear had to take a refresher course at a cdl driving school for about three weeks. The school was in Las Vegas but they have them all over the country. ladybug
