As some of you know, I've had sleep issues in the past,and given my current stress levels (bitter divorce, and a major shakeup at work), I have recently struggled far more than in the past with this issue. My struggles culminating with me frightening myself last night: I don't recall most of last night, caught myself several times drifting from lane to lane (thank God there was never anyone close enough to come in contact with!), and realized that I was dealing with the phenomenon called hypnagogia (essentially, lucid dreaming while awake, with eyes open). On my second round up to Seattle from our warehouse down south, I was getting off at literally every offramp, not realizing I had done so until it was too late.
Because of this, and due to the fact that my conscience will not allow me to risk potential injury or even death to the motoring public, and my boys need a dad, I have tendered my resignation to my employer effective today.
I will retain my CDL, but will be taking a few days off to rest, then pursue a side job I have to see if it can evolve into a full time position (Uber). There is the potential to make $1,000 or more per week just doing Uber full time. I already have 2 of the three business licenses that I will need for the area I will be covering, and am looking into medical insurance that I will need for my boys and myself.
If Uber ends up not paying out what I'm expecting, my former manager has suggested I look into O/O, which he is getting back into after walking away from corporate life.
Out of necessity, a new direction...

Don't know if it's legal or not, but I know someone that has Uber & Lyft at the same time. He stays busy.
Probably be under more stress than you are now as an 18 wheeler 0/0.
Edit: the guy I know that's with Uber/Lyft goes home every night at 10 pm so he doesn't have to deal with drunks.Last edited: Jun 13, 2018

As it stands, I should be able to stay pretty busy in my area. One of the measurements they use is "refusal rate", or how many customer pickups or food orders you refuse because you already have a fare ( some drivers like to "stack" fares, I have no interest in that.) I'm currently at about 50%.

Some companies such as Estes Express have "final mile" drivers and you don't need a cdl. Those jobs are like when a truck comes to the terminal and maybe has a few packages that need to be delivered to a customer in some remote area. The "final mile" driver will deliver them in a non-cdl truck, such as a cargo van or box truck.

Every single person I know that has gotten into Uber or Lyft regretted it because the work/stress levels were off the charts and it didn't pay nearly what they thought it would. I considered it myself for a while but after doing some research decided against it.

Park the truck if you feel tired no matter who says otherwise.
I was taking antibiotics 2 years ago and I could not stay awake for long. Because I am allergic to those sulpha types. So I parked on a ramp when tired.
