Okay, shifting topic slightly... I think I mentioned that my former manager has purchased a truck and is gonna go back on the road, and he thinks I could make a go as an O/O, although I seem to recall that he said the option for me would be to sign on with someone as part of a lease purchase. I need feedback from everyone here. I'm seriously looking at the option, but not sure where to start. I found this article on a fast search, and was wondering if anyone here has input on whether any of them are a good choice or not.
I have 25 years in the industry as a local driver only, with one violation on my record from a little over a year ago (driving on shoulder). I have spectacularly bad credit, thanks to this whole divorce thing. In fact, I've stopped answering calls from my creditors for now because I have no way to pay them. Eventually, I will slug my way back, but it will be a long road.

How about Oak Harbor or one of the other LTL's? Estes had regional positions open last I looked. With your resume it should be a snap to find daylight P&D.
JReding Thanks this. -

From talking to Uber guys here in passing
They say anywhere from 20-25 an hour for what the car makes after Uber’s cut. Then you take out the car rental or associated costs and then gas, you maybe clear 12/hr after everything before taxes
And taxes are 1099 basedJReding Thanks this. -
G13Tomcat Thanks this.

If your credit is jacked then you have no business buying, owning or leasing a truck period.
This is not rocket science.
2) If you got the kids [and i would understand if you don't wish to discuss(but if you DID get the kids, then yes, it certainly WAS a messy divorce coz the man virtually NEVER gets the kids.......)] then you got 4 mouths to feed and can't be too picky;
What is it about city LTL that's turning you off? Yes, i'm somewhat dreading the thought of going back to the city (and i might if i can't get the sleep situation figured out....), so i understand.
i'm going to try to list all the daytime gigs i've had, not just for the benefit of this thread, but also for my own records:
--Delivering flooring (tile/carpet) to home Depot. This was all pretty much during the day and no unloading.
---Samuel and son: Delivering rolls and sheets of metal to manufacturing plants and anyone who needed metal. This was daytime only coz most places that deal with metal are only open during the day----like sane people. Also, it was pretty easy and laidback. The Trailers were curtainside and there was some strapping, but come on. All customers either had forklifts or gantrys i think Ryder has this account?
Samuel, Son & Co.
--Food and/or beverage delivery. i know if you think LTL is too much work, then you're not going to like food deliv, but i'm listing it here for my records.
--Various electrical distributors: This was early morning start, 4:30am but you're done by 1:30pm.
--Jockeying: Boring
--Transforce

These last two temp companies are probably not the ideal place to end up, but what they WILL do is expose you to what's out there as far as daytime only work.
There's much more. Need time to jog the memory.JReding Thanks this. -
Getting in and out of the truck every 10 minutes got kinda old, too, although admittedly it would keep me in better shape (getting harder to see my toes lately...). That will just get harder as the years pass, and I'm 51 now.
I'm not lazy by any means, but it would be nice to find something a little more low key, low impact. -
So, I got an email from a company called Sunbelt Furniture Express. Has anyone heard of them, or know anything about them?
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
If i may be so bold to ask, did you or the other person get custody? (just trying to help)
And no, i have not heard of that company, but the website looks professional and not cheap. -
but.. oh well.....she will sleep on the 'downbed' that we have....with the Pittie.... to not wake me...and if/when she IS awake when I need sleep, she wears headphones to listen to news or whatever.
I've driven nights for the past many years, so it's kind of all I know. I really feel for you, man...glad I found this thread since we chatted.
I'm getting tested for Sleep Apnea myself at my physical next monday, since the wife's been reading on this....I'm not getting any younger. And a but scan I guess, as well. Yay me.
Man, I feel for you
...
