Walkin' back and forth from the yard to the house?
You go girl!
BTW, sorry I misunderstood that the layoff had already happened.
Hopefully those 4 will be all they need to let go.
I can't imagine how difficult it'd be living in a rural area and not having wheels then needing to find another job.
I wish ya all the best.
out of school, employed 4 mo, now scared of lay-off

Keep trucking and show them you are needed.
You are not laid off until they tell you this.
I worked for the same company for 18 yrs and every year there was rumors of layoffs and i was next.
Good luck brother!msfern29 Thanks this. -
i have indeed worked at a 'non-union" shop where the owner took no regards to seniority. he did indeed lay off anyone he chose, and to say that did not irritate the guys laid off is an understatement....!!!!
when the time came to "re-call" those laid off guys.....??? none of them were going back, they had found BETTER jobs. i wish i had been one of them that got laid off. the owner was an A-hole.msfern29 Thanks this. -
Msfern, I stand by what I said, and there was no intent to be rude. There are no guarantees in life.....why would that offend you ? You are doing your best to follow advice and NOT job hop, right ? That's all you can do. Good luck.

all we can do is what we can do..... -
Yes that is very common in the oil field. It booms for a while and then dies out again. If your current employer gives you a good reference the less than a years experience shouldn't hurt you that much if you want to stay local. I wouldn't panic considering you both dispatch and drive any time they need you you're a valuable employee to them. Just keep doing the best job you can everyday and hopefully they will appreciate you enough to keep you around.

not sure where in that it says the "no guarantees" comment is what I was considering insulting and rude. maybe "immature & expecting everafter", but you said happy ever after in a perfect world, just using your words, cut down and simplified. the presupposition of 'grow up' was the first sentence of your response. not only did I say what I found in your comment insulting, I explained why I found it insulting and rude. but since you ignored the explanation, it doesn't matter. (to try to explain any further would put a red spot on my forehead and a dent in the wall.) sorry I said anything about it! I will be sure to think twice before posting or asking anything here from now on.
very sorry I tried to explain anything to the responses received. thought if I explained little better...oh it doesn't matter. good night Gracie.
I'm employed for at least the next 30 days. when I got in shop this evening, boss and another employee talking, looks like with the layoffs I wont be slip seating anymore, I'll be assigned a truck.
I joked w/ boss "so I got 30 days or what? last hired you know?" he said "well, your workin next week". then they got off on how since the weather been nice I could "lay out" on the hood of the truck when loading or on stand by, drum up some business, lol. (yeah right, get oil and dirt streaks in my tan, I'm already getting lop-sided look from driver's window, lol. streaks would just be down right weird.). they are good group of guys, just teasing and all.
I've heard of couple local places hiring, don't know if they take newbies/trainees. if can find a ride or transportation, thought I'd try find their offices. know which towns they are in, so should be easy to find phone book. thought might look up some of the other company doors and trailers I see when I'm out in a day. after all, if where I'm working is cutting back, somewhere has to be taking up the slack and might need a driver, right? I already know some of the locations and a few pumpers/company men, might be a plus to get my foot in their door?
if I could find a way back to an interstate, might be possible to get into otr, haven't been out of school that long. tho from my understanding, if I stay local for more than 6 months, I'd probably have to do some kind of 'refresher' to get into an otr company. so will probably look into the one's that offer their own training camps first.
guess I'll find out.
very glad is starting to look like spring, enjoy the sun while you can!
again, thanks to everyone for the input. take care and be safe y'all.
