I'm buying my first truck and it's two states or about 350 miles away. What's the best way to get it home insurance and tags wise?
Out of state purchase

From a dealer? Dealers sometimes issue temp plates. Or, you can go to DMV in the state you are buying in and get transport tags.

I just leased my truck in Savannah Ga. My insurance company offered a temp policy to get it home. It was cheaper for the insurance if you are already leased on with a company (this way you just start your policy). My truck came with a temp tag. In Virginia the DMV sells a trip permit you stick in the window for 3$. It's fifty if truck is not insured.

Thanks everybody. This has been a lot of help

Arizona and New Mexico sell trip permits at their ports of entry. California requires you to purchase a trip permit in person at a DMV before entering the state.
California then required a licensed VIN verifier to fill out a form verifying the VIN before you could register it.
