Would like some advise from those that know about the brands etc. to get my truck ready now that I'm solo. My company only allows 1700 watt inverter. Any brand recommendations for the inverter plus fridge and microwave? Is a CB a must when you head out on your own? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a roadpro 1500 watt inverter which works just fine for a small dorm size refrigerator I bought from Wal-Mart. I also have a generic 600 watt microwave plugged into the inverter. Other appliances to consider would be a coffee pot, a sandwich maker, a crock pot, and a toaster oven. Use them as needed and you will save a ton of money as compared to eating in the truck stops each day. The smart drivers are budgeting their money and buying groceries for the truck from their local stores.

As for a CB yes by all means buy one. A basic 40 channel of your choice is all that is needed. Each person has their own preference but they all do the same thing wether you paid 50 bucks for it or 500.00.

The most important items I would suggest is a laminated road carriers atlas and a good cell phone. These 2 items will be invaluable to you as a truck driver. You will use them both every day as a trucker.

Other items would be a small tool box for basic repairs, duct tape, flash light, bedding, pillows, note book, pens, ruler, 2 weeks worth of under clothes and a week to 10 days worth of clothes as well as 2 pairs of work shoes or sneakers.

A laptop with an air card (so you can get on line and look up phone numbers or directions if you cannot get anyone to answer the phone at the customer) will come in handy as well.

jlkklj777 pretty much hit the nail on the head. personally i avoid the roadpro brand i just havent ever had very much luck with them and/or been satified with the quality of there product. allso i aways try to avoid buying products at the truck stop there just overpriced for the most part. and remember that the truck is not an ideall envioment for your products lots of vibrations and dust so warrentys are offten important

Appreciate the great info! Where do you get the laminated Atlas? I checked at the local Wally World and only saw the large book type but the pages aren't laminated. Is this a special order item or a special version for truckers?

Any travel center aka truckstop has them if you live near a pilot get one of their free magazines it has a coupon then you can get the map for only 20.00 or full price I think is 30.00-40.00

Also, pick up a truck stop guide at one of the "Travel centers" as well. The little pocket truck stop guide works well enough. It doesn't list every truck stop out there, but gives you the majority of them. A couple of gallon jugs of water (rinse & refill milk jugs) is also a good idea.

If you have to buy coax for your CB get it from a CB shop. The Road Pro and Bar-Jan brands they sell at the truck stops are almost worthless.
