I have had my CDL since I was 18. I drove for over 5 years but haven't been in a truck as a full time job for over 10 years. I am selling a business that I have owned for that time and want to get back in as an owner operator. Are there any decent companies that would take an owner operator like that. I'm not interested in being out for a month at a time. I want to be home weekly. I'm currently back driving for a childhood friend hauling farm commodities to get current experience. Really interested in line haul, dry bulk, or end dump if at all possible. I really don't want to bump docks. Any advice would be most appreciated.

... is your pal letting you do that now ?? If so , keep doing it till at least 18 months current . If you have a good cdl , and current time ( 18 months or more current) , then you should be good , and along the way you could make some contacts. Good luck.

    Are you in Georgia?
Intermodal might work for you as an 0/0.

I posted on your profile. You have any suggestions of companies to contact?

Unless you're leasing on to a carrier that has their own contracted freight you would be making a mistake. Spot rates are in the toilet and carriers (and brokers) are going out of business left and right.

Oh, running the ports will bleed you dry too. Not a good idea. If you already ran a successful business then you really should be thinking of better ways to generate revenue instead of being a hired gun for low freight rates.

Yes, doing that now. No tickets or any other legal issues ever. It's seasonal and I'm looking to get something full time going as soon as I can. Current goal is to go to work for Oakley. I have spoken to them and they told me what they needed to get me signed up. Just working towards that.

    Don't.

I mean really, just don't. Starting an o/o in Q4 2024 is just a whole 'nother level of stupid. I'm in LTL and the past 2 weeks have been bad. As in I went from work 65-70hrs a week, 6 days a week down to 4 hrs a day on the dock pushing brooms and dumping trash cans with some forklift work.

Sounds like you already have a plan. Just keep doing what you’re doing till Oakley will accept you. Did I miss something?
