just curious to see what other drivers would've done in this situation.
Loaded in Vancouver WA real small lumber storage place no scale. They claimed is was around 46k. Scale on my drives was sitting right at 34k. FYI my trailer is a 53' step axles have to be closed this trip. They wouldn't let me leave to scale without tarping it.
Closet scale was jubitz 15 miles away. First time there and I really liked their scale set up.
First weigh
Steers: 11660
Drives: 34720
Trailer: 32720
Gross: 79160
I do keep my fifth wheel all the way back for these situations. Took reweigh and moving it a couple slots. I finally ended up with
Steers: 12100
Drives: 34160
Trailer: 32780
Gross: 79040
My gross did change by 120 lbs scale lady said its just their scale.
My steers can hold 12350 I do have an APU but couldn't find a definite answer if it was 400lbs allowance on gross or drive axle. Anybody?
I had half a tank, my 14 was running and I don't want to sit on this load over the weekend. 2000 mile run.
Rolled thru 2 Oregon scales one 20 miles down the road. Got the green light. Idaho was closed got the pre pass in WY. I'm trying to hit all the scales at a quarter tank. I'm just that paranoid person who likes to have everything together and legal. If I was real worried about it id go buy a tub from Walmart to sit on the back of the trailer to throw my chains and binders in.
But anyways what would y'all do in this situation? Run it? Go back untarp, rework it?
Over axle weight

I had the same deal a couple years ago with a no tarp load, and while I would say just run it I did actually move my dunnage and tarps to the rear of the trailer and got exactly 34k on my drives. Same as you moving your chains and binders. I would rather move some stuff than get looked at too close.

that's some very bare information. Be even nicer if it had the complete details for each state.
For instance, Montana allows 1,000 lbs over.
You did good driver. Not much you really can do except move some equipment to the back if you can.
I don't know about the rest of the forum but sometimes it's a good idea having full tanks before loading. Some shippers don't care about how much fuel you got in the tanks. If you go in empty. You're screwed should the truck be heavier then you like. As far as they're concerned, you're legal.
I always had full tanks for cars. And lumber if i could. That way they don't argue with me when i'm too heavy.Pete jockey Thanks this. -
I try to go in about 3/4. I got little baby tanks so I gotta fuel almost every night anyways. From full a 650 mile day will drop me below 1/2 a tank.

I liked my last truck. 300 gallons. 350 would have been perfect for a complete round trip.

I got two 100 gal tanks. It bites.
