I just did my full over haul new oil pump and I raised my rpm to 700 my idle oil pressure is 22 psi.. I called cat went through all the check list with the head mechanic everything checks out. But still oil psi is low for some reason. Mechanic says there is no two engines the same when it comes to these cats... I am wondering if this is true is this okay.. Running psi is at 60. Before overhaul my psi was about the same at idle... Could it be a bad atmospheric pressure sensor ? Would that cause a low reading? Have all my friends yelling at me that's low numbers for cat in terms of psi.. Just so very confused on this matter and cat tells me it's within spec so it's fine... Plz help..

    Thank you

Mine was at 60lbs at idle after full overhaul and 80 at working rpms. Afraid I can't help you as to likely cause, but I know you will get some helpful suggestions on this.

Ok, first how are you measuring the pressure? Always double check and confirm oil pressure with a manual gauge taped into an oil galley. Also, what did you do with your "full over haul"? A quick part to replace would be the oil pressure regulator and oil pressure relief valve.

I agree with Heavyd. I have seen many Cat oil pressure relief valves stick and cause low oil pressure. This was a huge issue for us on the C13's in 2004-2005. When you pull it out, look close to see if the housing has any scoring.

Is that something I should replace or take out and clean ?

I'd just replace it, you can see if it's scored and feel if it moves free, but you wont be able to check if the spring is the correct tension.
