I don't, and unless they were gonna pay me a $1000 a day there is no way I'd go back. Now when I forced to work weekends it's double time.

    bottomdumpin and Malleus2 Thank this.

Some people who enjoy doing it must really enjoy the level of spontaneity that dispatch dishes their way.
Different scenery, the love of a new challenge each day, some perceived "freedom" of the open road.
It's a wonder that even with the way the economy is going right now, some dispatchers are still able to find a different place to send a long-haul driver each week.

I did it myself for a total of two years and wouldn't go back for any reason.
Hunting for a parking space every night and having to adjust myself for the different shippers and receivers aren't really worth the trouble.
That and the pay was quite horrifying compared to what I'm getting doing daycab, food-grade at this point in life.

If there's any long-haul to be done, it's going to be a road-trip in my pickup truck or rental car to some place awesome.

I don't mind it at all. The whole reason we started driving was so my wife and I could keep working together after we closed our other company. Not having kids is a big help, the only ones we miss are our dogs. Plus, we got on a dedicated account at Schneider so we don't have to worry about the erratic dispatch of otr... this wasn't NEARLY as bad as I thought it was going to be. Definitely trying to get on to something that gets us home weekly though...

That, and the money...you can't deny it lol

You're absolutely correct. 3000+ miles 6 or 7 days a week, away from home, hunting for a parking spot, over played food = 1000 miles moday-friday #### near home every night, Kobes Steakhouse, staying intrastate. =)))
