Yep I hear that...I have been on the road for 12 yrs n 6 of those as a multi truck O/O and only ever been towed twice. Once because a turbo impeller exploded and the 2nd time cause of a shorted out ECM. His karma will be in the form of him tryin to impress some other super trucker by being a super duper trucker n passing at 100 mph n then flying into a corner n goin so far into the bush that they will have to pack a lunch to go look. Then at least we wony have to put up with his BS n immature attitude on our highways that we are trying to act professional on and keep safe. I bet he is one of those guys that thinks just cause hr has a class 1 that he is autatically a professional driver...WRONG...

I'd say you got lucky with a $1500 bill

One of our trucks got stuck at a Georgia pacific, the closest truck tow service doesn't go out there for less than $500, then $100 per 30 minutes.

Took 6 hours to pull him off the rail road tracks (tried crossing on bare tracks, no ramp or anything)

There are companies out there that charge a lot. But the one time I got pulled out of a hole the truck was probably $200,000+. They ain't cheap with the paint job and custom exhaust work it had

Its the morons who dont think karma exists who are the ones who dont understand. If rzl dzl was an O/O instead of a company wheel holder then he would understand what its like to lose a days pay for something performed in 2 hrs...obviously he has no clue but sure knows how to talk...

Anybody who thinks this $1500 tow bill for what was performed was a good deal has obviously never paid one. I got one of my W9's hauled with my dry van from Barstow to Fontana CA for $380. Other tow was from Hope BC to Abbotsford BC for $450...and both of these were within the last 3 years so inflation has barely any play. The OP got RIPPED OFF...no doubt about it. Why are there so many morons who think this is OK...would they be more then happy to pay it?? I bet they sure as hell wouldnt...

To the OP. I think you were unlucky and the tow company were profiteering and basically taking advantage of having you over a barrel so to speak. I suspect that is fairly routine practice for many wrecker operators although in fairness my experience was much better.
A few years back I got stuck in a snow bank heading south on US hwy 81 just south of Concordia Ks. It was a terrible blizzard whiteout situation and the local wrecker company as recomended by the state hwy patrol boys were already busy with a whole bunch of other call outs but they came to me within a couple of hours. There was no damage to the truck but it was a case of having to chain onto the back of the trailer and pull the whole rig out backwards and even though it was a big wrecker the guy had to put the anchor spades down and winch my rig out. Total bill; $440 plus tax which I thought was expensive but after hearing these stories now I think it was very fair.

WOW... that must have been a heck of a recovery job to take 6 hours. Glad that wasn't me. The actual tow time was about 40 minutes for mine and I was located on the side of a major hwy less than 15 min from where the truck is based. I know that those trucks cost a fortune to buy, but even if it was a million dollar unit that came out to rescue me, I should not be overcharged for the service provided. As I said in a previous post, I coincidentally ran into an operator for a competing tow company in town and after I described the situation, where I was, the condition of my unit and all that the tow truck did for me... (even drew a little diagram for him...) he still said that it would have been about half what we were charged ... but an extra 100 if it was late at night an he had to get out of a warm bed.

I do, of course, appreciate all of the input from all of the drivers. Thank you all for taking the time to read and comment.

Well, I have told the truth. You can believe me or not, that is ultimately your choice I suppose.

What part of my "story" do you find unbelievable?

Who knows but truck drivers always stretch the truth on everything it seems. If its not you who's getting the bill stop caring. Btw. I would hit a car head on if one came into my lane. I've moved over for people before and ended up getting screwed by it
