"Well, at least there's one advantage to being a Prime driver. You never have to clean dead bugs off your truck - they just get up and fly away when you stop..."

I laugh at all you drivers who make fun of Prime because they drive slow. It shows your ignorance to the reality of fuel prices. Start paying the fuel bill and see how fast you drive when the difference between 75mph and 60mph is over $300/wk out of your pocket or more. I drive about as slow as they do because fuel cost so much. Even if Im pulling a load paying me $4/mi Im not driving any faster. It just makes zero business sense. This also shows why the companies that let their drivers run wide open also pay far less than other carriers with governed trucks. They extra money they arent paying you is to cover the cost of your lead foot. Then there is the safety factor, driving 60mph most trucks come around me and are far up the road pretty quickly as are the cars,so I have plenty of room for reaction time in case of an accident ahead. Statistics dont lie gentlemen, slow and steady saves you money and keeps you out of accidents. Learn to keep that left door closed and set your cruise at a safe speed and you will get there with more money in your pocket. I often see the same "big dogs" pass me several times in the same day and its not uncommon for me to roll in to the truckstop just behind them at the end of the day. So they gained nothing but a larger fuel bill. The old saying about faster means more miles and more money is no longer true and hasnt been for a very long time.

great idea
i heard that at 45mph, you could even save more fuel
and its legal in most statesvolvodriver01 Thanks this. -
Like I said, pay the fuel bill yourself like I and most drivers at Prime do and you WILL slow down or go broke trying to be a big dog. Ask one of those guys driving for a small owner operator that lets him run wide open what he is making per mile and you will find out Im correct. The vast majority of single truck owner operators run slow. When you pass that big W900 with all the chrome and lights on it ask yourself why he is traveling slower than you in the right lane. Then ask him on the cb if he has it on,he'll tell you because it cost too much anymore to run wide open. You company drivers dont pay the bills hence most of you dont give a darn.

like i said, i believe the maximum fuel mileage is at 45mph, enjoy
if my job was all about money, i would sell drugs, its more profitable
but there is a certain enjoyment i have in driving a truck, and i mean driving, not trudging along down the highway being enslaved by the cost of driving a truck
if a driver has a w9 and he needs to drive 55mph to just break 6mpg, and its his truck, God bless him
i dont have to drive 55 to get 6mpg, so i see no need to turn something i love doing into something that i will eventually hate doing
maybe after i have been out here 40 yrs, i will agree with you, but until that time, you enjoy doing what you do the way you do it, and i will do it the way i enjoy doing it
as for company drivers, they are typically maxing out these days at 65mph, because their boss pays for their fuel
i pay for my own fuel, i see my 7.5mpg days and my 5.5 mpg days, and when its all said and done, i have no complaints -
Nevermind................................................................................................. wrong thread..........................

I'm still in training, but with Prime as a company driver if you don't achieve a certain (highly obtainable) MPG they either let you go or force you to lease. Makes sense to me. If you don't want to take the personal responsibility necessary to ensure the company you work for doesn't have to shell out extra money if they don't have to then shame on you. If you go above and beyond, you get a fuel bonus. Makes perfect sense to me. I see no problem driving 55-60 down the highway. Gets me where I need to go safely, and with extra money in my pocket.

Hey, I wasn't poking fun at Prime, just recounting what I heard on the CB
