Not around here. Firs the girl was 13 now she is 15. The story keeps changing. They are also saying that speed wasn't a factor. If there wasn't any speed, there wouldn't have been a crash.
Pics on the news indicate the top of the minivan was removed maybe by the I beams. I'm guessing he swung to make the turn and went into the vans path.

We're not talking about crossing six lanes of traffic. This accident is all kind of messed up. It should have been prevented and the 4 wheeler had a chance to prevent it so did the semi driver.
-
Are you serious? It was dark and there was black massive steel beam(s) hovering above the roadway about 5 feet. How can one expect and be prepared for such an incident? 20 MPH or 60 MPH, the result is going to be the same. Just at the wrong place at the wrong time.NavigatorWife and rachi Thank this.

News is reporting that the van was following the truck in the left lane. The I beams did have a yellow flashing light at the rear, but it didn't look too bright from my perspective.

As I've said many times before...i wasn't there...so won't 2d guess...All I will say is I've personally NEVER been in a situation where a u turn is necessary...it may be more convenient & less time consuming(& yes I have and still do make them)but they are very very rarely the only option&w/something overdimensional and probably not terribly well lit....probably wasn't the best choice.....

In that spot if he had continued on westbound it get drops from 4lanes with median to two narrow lanes with no edges then gets curvy. It can be tight keeping a 53' out of the grass and not crossing center lines
There is a place just as you get to the two lane he might have been able to get in and turn around but depending on length may not. Go past the Gas station on the left 1 mile from there and a long load would be big trouble.
Not sure why he was in that area though. Probably took that exit instead of the Greenville exit for us64 that runs along I-64
Speed limit is 50 but cars run though there 65 70 beating the light right there trucks not so much is a climb if stopped at either of the 2 lights before that one.
Plus that light is in a corner right after a hill. There are many wrecks between there and a mile west of that location.
We wont get into how many close calls i have seen or almost had 1 mile past as people shoot the right lane to get past you and the traffic at the two lane comes to a halt as one trys to get in the gas station. -
I was wondering why he was up there too. Either you want to go up hwy 150, or you don't. He could have turned around 2 miles previously at Highlander Point.tsavory Thanks this.
