I am doing my 1st OS load across country and need some info if you guys have it...

I will be hauling some 10' wide plate steel (legal length and height) and need to know if there are any specific lighting requirements for a 10' load in the following states??

KY TN AR TX NM AZ

Someone told me they had to have lights on the widest part of the load in NM but I can't find any info on this. I'm thinking maybe he was running at night???

You don't need any special lights for those states at 10 wide. NM does require flags on your front bumper tho.

    SHC Thanks this.

what he said , and new mex wants flags at each corner of load. and shc, your permit will also have any conditions for lights and such needed.

always verify with whats on permit. also some states have a addl sheet with the permit that states common provisions. they are required . indiana for instance requires this (500 if ya dont have it and are checked).

several states have these and also some require a certain color ink when you sign the permit, make sure you sign them if required.

the states you posted are a cake walk for a 10 wide load of flat steel

Thank you both... as for the flag on the bumpers, my trailer has flag holders on all 4 corners, so do they have to be on the bumper, or just 4 corners of the load??? I have no way to install flags on my bumpers yet.

Comdata also wants axle spacing distance so i did this by myself and was a PITA... does this sound about right??

    1-2= 234"
    2-3= 53"
    3-4= 368"
    4-5= 120"

I remeasured the rear spread to verify it was a 10' spread and not a 10'1" and it is for sure a 10' even......

Most states specify "Widest point of load". For the front just put a flag on a bungee and wrap it around the front bumper and put your flags on the back of the trailer.

Well I am going to put my flags on the trailer corners and then one on each corner of the steel plates I'm hauling obviously.

They want it in feet and inches 1-2 should be 19' 6' check 3-4 should be
    4' 4" or 52 inches, most are.
No lights needed, but put a flag, no stick,on the top corner both sides of the sign on the front, MN will be happy as long as you have 6 flags.

If you can get your NM from the permit service it can save you a lot of time. If you are going to buy at the port call LS and get a insurance card with listed amounts of insurance, they will want it.
If you keep doing oversize dump comdata and get another company, LS has a list of approved services. If you have a pikepass give your permit service the number.

Get that oversize directory you find in some truck stops. About $14 and lists what you need for every state. For the future anyway

In New Mexico you have to have flags on your tractor, either on the mirrors or on the front bumper. These are in addition to the flags required on the widest points of the load. It has to be a minimum of 6 flags.
