I saw a new one, today, in IL.

A bucket truck with a large pole was following the lead escort a long way in front of the load.

The load was really tall, looked like he had to get off to go around the overpasses, the bucket was apparently to lift overhead lines.

Isn't there signs on 43 in Milwaukee advising trucks over 13'6 or overheight to exit? Pretty sure there is...

Generally the OS route around Milwaukee is HWY 100 which runs a big loop around the county. Even that has a few low bridges though. For the most part over height on the Milwaukee Interstate routes is not a good idea unless you know where you're going.

That bridge he hit is Lincoln St. It's clear for up to 14'11". He was likely well over 15'. WI doesn't require pole cars until you get past 16' generally.

There are signs before all of the HWY 100 exits warning oversize of restrictions within the county once they pass HWY 100. The only one I know of that warns for height is on I-43 NB just before the Layton Ave exit coming out of Waukesha County. There is a 14'2" bridge past that with no other options to get off before it.

If he was 15'+ though he couldn't use the HWY 100 bypass route because there is a 14'3" bridge that crosses it in Hales Corners.

There are no signs warning about height coming from the south up I-94 from Chicago because there are a lot of Industrial places in the southern part of the county that are inside the HWY 100 loop that are easily accessible from the Interstate at 16' high.

All those bridges down there have been replaced in the last 15 or so years as they have been widening I-94 so most of them are 16-17' High.

If he had bothered to get a permit he would've been kept way west of the city and probably run up through Waukesha county at that kind of height.
