That's the thing too, if they had studied their atlas they could have gone hwy 14 through Palmdale to 58 east to Barstow
and hit I 40 from there and no scales......adds maybe 50-75 miles but no hassles, that and they could have weighed the wagon in Ontario before heading up the pass.
Also would help to have a 48' 3 axle step with can locks, those are popular for container moves....................what do I know, I swing doors for a living.........

Thanks for the advice. But anyone can make a mistake after sitting at the port for 6 hours, because company did not paid peer charges.
Anyway. We had to wait for 3 days for customer's permission to open a container, then hire a forklift to move 4 pallets to the upper deck. Then we went to Pilot, put them pallets back in container and went. 3 days and $1800 -
My old stomping grounds.... and if you go in AFTER 8pm you will zoom in and out in under 30 min easily.

I am not sure if they still do this. But the Citgo plant on cicero has a scale. Not sure if your company has to have an acccount. But it is the only scale in Chicago that I know of. You have to weigh steers, drives and tandems all separatly. It is accurate though

My question is, what do you do if you are overwight with a container?? They can't unload it and move things around at a rail yard, and you will most likely not move enought weight by sliding your 5th wheel. On a chassis I know you can move the tandems usually, but on my SD, all i can do is open and close the spread. So just open it up and go, since I'm good for 40K on the spread anyways. And if you are in Chicago area, there are only a few chicken coops to worry about, and easy to avoid

I think the cicero yard has a dock you can be transloaded at if u are way to heavy or your container has rail damage

Dot at the rail yard here just makes sure your not over weight by the Bol. And if you don't slide your axels on a 20 footer your going to get a ticket depending on weight.

Just seems like common sense to me (which isn't so common anymore) as to judge how to scale your trailer. I run a SD with can locks so I don't worry too much.
