If you look at the “max” penalty for any crime in any state it can be high. Doesn’t mean anyone gets it, the overload I’m fighting now carries the possibility of 90 days in jail. I’ve never known anyone to go to jail for an overload.

What scale issued you the ticket? Did they make you legal the load before leaving?

Hauled a load out there 2 years ago that someone else loaded. It was 1600 over on the trailer when the tandems were closed. Ran in under the cover of darkness thinking the Rainbow scale would be closed at 3 am.

    Nope

I spent a couple hours rearranging the load in the parking lot. Go back in and a new shift was there. I was all dirty and covered in sweat.
Guy says why didn’t you just open up the spread? I says I’m a 53’.

He says to me “we never would of noticed. Have a nice day.”

Everyone that I personally know that has gotten a KPRA ticket has never had anything happen to them that trucker stories say would happen to you. $137 ticket, leave the state. One of my friends got popped going east at Tehachapi and they didn’t ask for his log book or anything. Gave him his KPRA ticket and told him to keep going east until he hit the state line.

That should make it a criminal misdemeanor, like a reckless driving charge in VA.

    Dave_in_AZ and cke Thank this.

Now that I think about it, a driver with the outfit I did heavy haul for made the mistake of trying to sneak through Greencastle PA after curfew. He got arrested, and the boss man had to take $5000 up there to get him out.

The only ones I have known to get kpra tickets out there have been let go with a ticket,, except for that one lowboy I don't know how much the tickets were though.
On the lowboy, they would not let him pull it out even empty or anybody else, for some reason it was legal if loaded on another trailer and hauled out.

There used to be an outfit in the dallas area called dart that had some 57 foot vans georgia and another state up in the north east shut down several of their trailers. Georgia and the one in the NE made them haul them out on the rail road at first. The last ones they caught in the NE they made them have the trailers cut down before they could pull them out, I can't remember, but it seems like it was jersey.
