You got it legal?..so when he weighed you..you only had 30,000 on the tractor..and 38,000 on the trailer?...that thing had to be bucking like a kicking bronco?..you had NO idea your weight was off?

I have gotten so i know immediatly just by pulling my trailer down the road if my weight is off by a cple hundred i cant believe you didnt notice.

4240# overweight will get the DOT's attention every time, whether on an axle group or on gross weight.

By "don't put too much weight on the 5th wheel" he likely meant "make sure your drives aren't more than 34,000#."

I would be surprised if Star is actually paying it our of their pocket...most companies, their general policy is "Do not run overweight"...and if you do, and you get caught, that's your ticket. Most will pay just about any citation you get for you initially, to ensure it gets paid and your license does not get suspended for NOT paying (so you can keep working for them), but they also may deduct the amount of the fine over several weeks from your pay....think of it as a cash advance to pay the fine.

Here is my suggestion, invest in a 2011 National Truck Stop Directory(The Truckers Friend) $14.95. Shows most Truck Stops in US and Canada. Also lists services available at each T/S. Such as Cat Scale. I would think your Co. would reimburse you for the Cat Scale fee.
