My co says scale all loads over 35k, I get reimbursed for the scale fee. I always stop at the first scale on my route and check it.
I am curious though. You said you slid your tandems to the 21st hole in indiana? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that violate the bridging law in indiana? Or am I thinking IL? I don't have my paper handy with the kingpin to tandem lengths. -
the only state that cares about bridge is CA. All other states wont say anything as long as the tandems arent back to the DOT bumper (although other states do have Bridge laws, but are VERY RARELY enforced)
and 21'st whole means nothing to you differant trailer manufacters have differant amounts of holes and differant spaceing between the holes on the tandem slide rail. So unless you both have the same make/model trailer you cant know where his tandems were.

I realize this thread is old....but I just saw it....and noticed (highlighted)
340,000 on the tandems?
WOW...must have a big engine under that hood!
Sorry.....some things are irresistible!

WRONG!!
Minnesota enforces its 41' kingpin setting, as does Tennessee. Indiana will enforce it on highways that are not on the Interstate system. Believe theirs is 42'.
You are going to get someone a ticket with your advice one day.
I will post bridge laws when I get planted for more than 15 minutes.
And yes, states besides CA enforce them.johnday Thanks this. -
go back through this thread i already posted the whole list of legnth laws.......

yeah I found it ironic since in this same section someone posted being ticketed for being too long in the wheelbase in...VA I think it was.
Anytime I'm loaded first thing I do is check the manifest weight, if it's above I check the load if it's not presealed. I can pretty much tell by how it's loaded where the weight will be. On our trailers the 7th hole is legal in all 48. I start there if I can and hit the closest weigh station.
Luckily I had a good trainer who impressed on me the importance of running legal and got me into good habits in the 3 weeks I was with him. I'm into my 3rd month now and while I'll happily admit I have a lot to learn still I can say I am a safe driver and I obey the laws and try to make sure I know them. I recently got switched to big brother (eobr) and during my log review the head of the log dept said my paper logs were very, very good. Better than most veteran drivers. That made me happy lol. least with eobr I don't have to worry about a form and manner violation like I used to. -
I don't worry about that either...I just tell 'em I don't have a log book.

and Maryland may check you for having your tandems too far forward! The have a formula for overhang behind the rear trailer tandems vs. the depth of the kingpin. I got measured in the Cumberland MD I-68 coops once, they told me I was .7% over their formula, (yes 7/10's of a single per cent) so the let me go, but they weren't happy!
Injun Thanks this.
