Believe it or not people are trying to help you here. They're taking time out of their day and giving you the benefit of their experience.
You've been given some good advice. Why not take it?

most legit companies will tell you they will pay for a scale ticket and an over weight as it is not your fault.

if you get popped for an over weight and no scale ticket they will take the fine out of your check and maybe fire you.

Yes I see your point of view. Just don’t get the tax advice. Maybe I misunderstood. Isn’t the $500 just deducted from gross income. In which case, I won’t see that $500 ever again, because I have never owed tax in the first place.

    Let's say you earned 50,000

Uncle sam gives you what? 24000 standard deduction?

    That leaves around 36000 taxable.

IF you ITEMIZE with 1040 etc then all of your reciepts showing expenses you paid get dedcucted.

    Call it 2000 dollars.

Your Adjusted Gross Income becomes around 34000. That becomes taxable.

How much did you have withheld from W2 that year? hopefully its adequate and break even no refund for you no tax for you to pay. (Plus HR Block 250 etc dollars)

Now years ago we learned to earn jointly 18000 or so but not a dollar more. That resulted in a small refund at tax time from both uncle sam and the state. It was a very bad time financially. So we did not need tax bills each year as it was.

You'll see a few dollars of it in your tax refund as your taxable income dropped a bit. Thing is, way too many people think you get 100% of it back on taxes. You don't You get between 0 and 30% back depending on your tax rate.
It's better than nothing I guess, but it's still not an expense you should be paying.
