Just keep track of the miles travelled and fuel purchased in each state for the quarter. I'm in Indiana and you file it online, really pretty simple.

No. Just the total miles in each state.

You best be tracking the route you used or the auditor is gonna give an expensive lesson!

your supposed to track routes traveled on your trip sheet so when they audit you they can confirm the miles are true and accurate. however for your quarterly filling its just total miles and gallons per state. nd has it setup to file online you just plug all your totals in and it generates the rest.

Ok, so safe side says keep routes on record.

When I was with Landstar we kept track of routes originally, then they started a gps tracking program for a couple bucks a month and it waived that responsibility... no more route tracking after that

But thanks... I was debating wether or not to keep track of the routes

I don't list every little tiny state/county route, or a street name, just the major highways and Interstates. How am I supposed to track them? Voice recording them as I drive? That would look dumb. Miles need to agree with odometer, though. The ELDs will show your odometer readings.

yeah if im jumping across a bunch of different highways and country roads im not writing every one down i just make sure its obvious what route i took. so if they ask me in two years what exact route did i take that day i can show them....lol

like say im comming from Manitoba threw dunseith POE going to Jamestown i might put via 281 or via hwy 52. you can cut down a few different south bound highways and come out on 52 and 52 meets up with 281 in carrington or your can run across to 281 and run 281 all the way down.

    routes.png

kinda a bad example as neither is really that complicated of a route and its the exact same miles either way. but some times a a/b can be like 10 different roads traveled on and there just isn't enough space to write every one and i try to be fairly complete. i have not been audited for ifta but you should certainly be tracking routes.
