I've read a lot of companies will reimburse you for fuel using your own vehicle to get to orientation just save the reciepts for them.

Not feeling trapped and NO worries about getting home. Sure, they get you there to the terminal but when the employment is ended things can get real awkward real fast. I've heard too many horror stories about companies bringing new drivers before their backgrounds have been completed and being sent home over issues. It's like dealing with DOT. If they want to find something, they will. I'm also somewhat of a control freak and with my ride their I feel more grounded and untethered.

I've heard this too, except that they only reimburse you for the amount it would have cost to send you by bus only.

I'm planning on going to Prime orientation either next month or in June, and from New York, NY to Springfield, MI cost A TON by car rental (gas & tolls are a real drag) and I HATE planes. So the crappy bus ride is what I have to look forward to :(

I hate planes too and they only have one terminal so I'll be running from it exclusively.

We're talking about hiring on as a pro driver and 5 hours is awful far to drive a car to class? :^)

If you get hired and they give you a truck and you won't be coming back there drop the car in a long-term lot at the nearest airport. Sometime you or someone else can fly in and it'll be right there.

Although I've decided what I'm going to do it's interesting reading how others would do it. Personally, I don't like the idea of being "stranded" anywhere. In another 6 months or so I'll literally be living out of the rig and/or my vehicle anyway. I'll go to wherever the work is.
