As long as ''drivers'' allow this to happen and not grow a set of balls,it will never end..I am sure the product is being stored in your trailer and they will use you for storage until you ''stand up'' for yourself.

I am sure it has nothing to do with being 20 minutes late..But this is a wonderful ''excuse'' to use.If you were not late it would of been another excuse...I have the shirt for this type of behavior. They do this #### in PRODUCE everyday..

It is the oldest trick in the book and they will use any excuse to store that product until they are good and ready to move it and store it....

Make a local church group or food bank a heck of a deal or sell it all outside of swap meet :biggrin_2559:

I had this happen once... Actually, the load was cancelled en route, and nobody thought to tell me. Immediately, I was on the phone with the broker, and told them I had another load lined up, and get it figured out before I missed my next load. When the receiver wouldnt budge, I told the broker to find a cold storage, and make arrangements for the drop BEFORE my pickup appointment that afternoon. That afternoon rolled around and the arrangements werent made in time so I missed my pickup on my next load. I informed the broker that I fulfilled my obligation on the first delivery, and we would be needing a new rate confirmation for my delivery to the cold storage in the amount of my missed profit, and in the end, I GOT IT. The last thing you want to do is lose your cool when dealing with ANYBODY when you are in that truck. I get compliments on how patient and understanding I am ALL THE TIME, and 9/10 times, that gets me unloaded before other drivers who were there before me, and even extra money from brokers for screwups such as this.

So you were early, than you were late by 40 minutes and they are essentially getting even with you/using you for storage. So a lesson learned and now you need to do something so that you are not sitting for the next two days. First; call the broker/shipper and let them know that you did attempt to deliver early and was late the next day for whatever reason but that you can't sit for the weekend. Become assertive and let them know you will have to drop the load where it sits, plain and simple! Second; translate that to the receiver as well. Third; see where the first two get you and than make the decision to actually either sit and wait or grow a pair and call their bluff, Grab your straps and proceed to attach to said inventory and attach to the dock and pull away...Continue to do so until product is in parking lot! My guess is once you start the procedure, they will rush to unload you but than again I could be wrong. Either way; you are losing money on this haul!

I had a similar situation at a place I refuse to deliver to anymore unless they pay the $2500 premium.

The place is Loblaws in Cambridge, ON. One side of the building is a cross dock facility that ships out to places far away, the other side is a distribution for local grocery stores. Often there are multiple PO#s to pick up and a delivery is made to each side of the place.

The people on the cross dock are generally level headed, although they will usually take at least 8 hours to unload you. They have appointments but you may show up as early as you like and the cross dock will unload their stuff. I (used to) load it so the cross dock would be on the back end to make this easier. Now go around the other side and the receiver says to me, your appointment is for the following morning, 4 am. That would be 26 hours from now, after I have already spent 8 hours on the cross dock side. Why they would schedule it like that? God only knows.

Enraged, I call the broker and tell them I do not have anybody available to deliver the load the next day. They know I have only one truck and one trailer, he asks me what is he supposed to do. I tell him I am taking the trailer home, RENTING another reefer, and leaving for the west coast (2500 miles one way). Low and behold, I get to the exit gate and they stop me and tell me to put it in the door.

BTW - the product was a mix of parsley, leeks, green beans, etc. Not like it spoils very fast ...

A neighbor of mine had a problem years ago where he was not paid by a broker. he was patient & approx several months later he got a load from the same broker, though the broker did not remember him. after loading the steel beams he took them home & then called the broker & reminded who he was. he told the broker if he wanted his load to send him all his money owed. the broker said you do not have any load of mine & hung up on him.

the broker called back within 20 minutes & asked how much was needed. I forgot how much my neighbor demanded, but the next day 2 men showed up with a comcheck for the total amount demanded. the 2 men asked if they could use my friends forklift to load it. friend said he has no forklift, he tied chain around beams & to light pole & drove forward, until all were off. the men had to rent a forklift. if this receiver or broker, or whoever is responsible for your pay, I would take a load in the future & then demand all past due money plus current pay to be made before delivery. now I will say my friend had documents proving he made good on load, but was never paid, so he was not worried about the law. I would definately hold load hostage if I had too.
