Sounds like you getting in early annoyed them somehow, so they used the late arrival as an excuse not to receive you, now they are closed for weekend.

many produce buyers are rated now on their warehouse turns, this means they are rated on how many days of supply is in the dc. This makes them reluctant to take you early, as it messes with the metrics they are measured on.

In the old days early arrival, they would take you off, now they often can't. The broker cannot control this, he is at the mercy of the shipper or the receiver who ever booked the load.

Your best option is to find a local small wholesaler who would take you off, take possession and redeliver on Sunday night. Most major grocery DCs have a few warehouses near that do this. It's ow Friday night so you might be sol.

I book a load with a large brokerage for $700. Legal move of 50 miles. Get to the border and the customs broker says we won't submit paperwork to customs until consignee pays $13% tax owing on the $100,000 piece. Yeah right. Driver sits for 7 hours then they finally get their crap together and the shipment gets cleared but broker will not issue detention so I e-mail broker tell to them truck is going to my yard and I will deliver when I get $750 extra. Broker calls later to say if I take less money, they will continue to do business with me. I say OK and cut a deal for $375 detention. After delivery they send me a letter saying that I am on their do not load list. Lying pricks.

Oh well. The consignee is my customer now. Moved 4 loads for him since then. Revenue of $5,600 that the broker didn't get.

Take it to a warehouse and unload it. Submit your bills and tell them where you left it. Even if you do not get paid for the load you will be better of by getting rid of it than sitting on it more days and losing money. My buddy go's through this daily, not sitting days but hours waiting to load or unload and for the life of me i will never ever figure out why van and refer guys put up with this BS.

Happened to me on a load two weeks ago. Supposed to be a straight through from NH down to GA. Pick up the load and call the broker to let them know that they are taking a long time to load the load. Broker says ok no problem you're still ok for delivery, what time can you be there? I say no later than 12 the next afternoon. Cool
Run straight through the night and arrive at receiver and the lady says we only receive at night and your appointment has already been rescheduled for Sunday at 11pm
I play it cool hand Luke and call the broker and tell him I'm not particularly happy with his games of just wanting to have the load moved. I tell him I've already rebooked a second load to head home for $1500 and that the only way I will sit on it is for that same amount. He says can't do it, I say ok find a cross dock and get your product off my truck because I've upheld my end of the deal. Calls back and says he can't find a cross dock...mind you I'm in Atlanta! I tell him no problem, I'll call you in 30 mins with the details as to where I've dropped your load! He calls back in 5 mins and agrees to split the rate with me at $750. I'm like OK cool. I'll take that for no moving and waiting a day and a half and deadhead home and still make $650.

Long story short. I tell the broker I want a comchek at that moment for my waiting, he agrees and gives me an express code. I turn in my invoice to them and somebody in accounting must not have realized I received an initial check because they included another $750 in the end....WINNING!

Let me get this straight...Your delivery appointment was changed, by whom you do not know. You then call the broker complaining about having to wait, which I can understand. Next you lie to him about a $1500.00 load going home, and after several discussions, the broker does the right thing and agrees to pay you $750.00, which is extremely high for that wait, but you had your story. You deadhead home, which obiviously is fairly close by, with as you say you made $650.00 in your pocket doing so. When his check comes you see he paid the $750.00 twice. You keep his money instead of calling him and pointing out his error in paying you money you didn't earn. You are happy that you hit this broker up for $1500.00, of which the majority you didn't earn or were entitled to. If I am wrong, correct me on the facts.
As the old saying goes, "Two wrongs don't make a right".

You handled it the way you saw fit. I will say that's not the way I would have done it. I have gone back inside a store to return money that I was overpaid in change to return it, and also went back and paid for items I had that wern't on my receipt. Maybe I'm the only person that does that, but I love the feeling of being able to sleep knowing I earned and paid for what I have.

I'm not trying to start a fight, this is just how I see things.

My confirmation stated the load was to be delivered at 7am on Friday. At the time I booked the load and picked the load up it was no longer possible for that timing to be met. Prior to getting it on to my wagon, I asked the broker point blank would the load be accepted when I got there. His response to me was "what time could you be down there" I told him 12 and he said that would work out fine.

I got there sometime after 11 in the morning and was told by office personel that they only receive after 11pm Sunday - Thursday and that my appt had already been rescheduled for Sunday. Up until this point, I had no idea about any of this timing. I went by what the confirmation stated and what the broker told me. The broker changed the appt and tried to get me on the hook with this load for 2 additional days.
I didn't lie to the broker about a load home. I pre booked a load with his company about an hour before I got to the delivery, so I WAS losing $1500 for the load I had going home.
Now I got a fair rate for the situation, however the way the broker assumed that I would become his mobile freezer over the weekend was his bad. And he only offered $200 to start. I run a business and I'm not into giving my services for free, especially when I've done what was asked of me.
The way I see it...he knew from the very beginning that the load wouldn't make it and instead chose to only get rid of the load and deal with the backlash when it arises. He tried to f*&* me, but got f*&**d in the end. We all know these brokers #### sure don't have any of our best interests at heart and will cut a rate to pad there pocket in a heartbeat. Fair exchange is no robbery.

They used to do this crap all the time with Watermelons and Produce.I would be en route back to Hunts Point or the Northeast and the broker never even had a ''buyer'' for this load.He would rather deal with the ''backlash'' once i got to NY..

This is why my days of hauling any food is OVER.I won't even put a can of tuna fish on my wagon these days.I do not care what it pays..The food business SUCKS and i would rather deliver newspapers...:biggrin_2559:
