I have a future goal of becoming an owner operator here soon and perhaps even trying to start my own company. If there is anyone that has any experience on being an O/O or a business runner , or perhaps with the same goals in mind. I would like some advice on where to start for both things. I dont want someone answering who have no idea on how to even drive a truck. Thanks

May I suggest that you start by searching a reading the forum first. You are throwing a wide net. I understand you are looking to get a direction and not trying to slam you. After spending some time participating in the forums then you will have some more targeted questions - I hope - that will not require a 40- page response.

Not a problem. There is a lot of good information on this board. Looking at your age you have a bit of time to educate yourself. And understand that your age will be an obsticle. Insurance and financing will be harder to obtain until you have a couple years behind the wheel.

If I could provide any advice for you at this stage is to keep expenses low, save money like crazy and keep your record clean. When you get started as an O/O so many of the things that you do and prepare for today will play into your profitabilty later.

Insurance is not cheap. Get a ticket for violations or speeding and that could cost you thousands later. Don't have money saved in reserve and you will have to give up 5% of your revenue to a factoring company. That can be more than 5K a year.

    It all adds up.

    jayo2009 Thanks this.

I started researching becoming a O/O even before i got my first driving job as a newbie, spent 2 years as a company dirver learning the business from every angle i could conceive and of course reading every thread here on TTR.

I have applied what i have learned to my business try to follow a certain methodology that fits me and my bus. and so far have been profitable.

I will offer to help you with advice or answer any questions you have
